I'm pretty sure a NC barbeque map would stretch from only Murphy to Lexington, because that's the only good NC bbq. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/920714852/the-great-nc-bbq-mapTL, DWsome girl wants to put together a map of NC bbq restaurants that explains history and different styles
3/2/2014 11:01:47 PM
The best is Shane's Rib Shack, and it's not even close. So fuckin' good.
3/2/2014 11:10:34 PM
How is it gonna take 10 thousand bucks to draw a map?
3/3/2014 12:18:49 AM
I think she's had quite enough bbq already
3/3/2014 12:37:31 AM
nahshe got them curves thoa+
3/3/2014 12:52:55 AM
I will make this book for $2,000but it will not be so nicely designedand it will likely be an audio book...okay, I'm going to drive across the state recording myself eating
3/3/2014 1:04:01 AM
backed
3/3/2014 7:16:18 AM
I'm 100% sure this has been done already and there is a book somewhere that goes over all this. But it may be dated, so here take my money.
3/3/2014 7:26:27 AM
3/3/2014 8:47:09 AM
^that showed them who's boss!!!!
3/3/2014 10:20:55 AM
3/3/2014 10:28:18 AM
you could probably actually make it for the low low price of two Bob Garner books, Holy Smokes, and a phonebook
3/3/2014 10:56:58 AM
If you really want good barbecue and you're in North Carolina what you want to do is get on I-40 and travel west until you hit Memphis. Then either stay put or hook a north onto I-55 and then west onto I-70 and straight on until you've reached Kansas City. Bam actual good barb3cue.
3/3/2014 11:07:04 AM
iop1so basically if you give her money, it's for her to drive around the state eating bbq?
3/3/2014 12:27:54 PM
here, someone give me 10 grand
3/3/2014 12:51:16 PM
i like tacos
3/3/2014 12:52:35 PM
i had some excellent eastern style bbq behind enemy lines this past weekend.
3/3/2014 1:31:16 PM
^^^Solid map. Now I don't see a need to fund this kickstarter.[Edited on March 3, 2014 at 1:33 PM. Reason : carrots]
3/3/2014 1:33:07 PM
These hipster projects are why I can't take Kickstarter seriously. She should just rename this exactly what it is "Give me $10k so I can be interviewed on mid-day NPR about a subject I didn't care about until 6 months ago but am now REALLY interested in"Its the pinnacle of Whiteyism.
3/3/2014 1:43:10 PM
^^^^^Greensboro should be in the DMZ. Ate plenty of both types growing up, though western-style is slightly more common.
3/3/2014 2:11:07 PM
I thought about putting them on the other side of the line, but I remember mostly getting western style up there, whereas Asheboro and Ramseur had both (at least until Blue Mist closed down). there's a little room for error, of course. BBQ politics aren't an exact science. more funding is clearly needed, so please donate to my kickstarter instead of that bitch from unc
3/3/2014 2:20:05 PM
Aha, love the map. For those of you in CLT, theres a relatively new (2/3 yrs old?) indie BBQ joint down near south end called Sauceman's. While the BBQ isnt bad, its got a massive drawing of an NC 'family' BBQ tree with a lot of the old timer BBQ joints/owners going back to the late 1800's IIRC.
3/3/2014 2:56:43 PM
http://www.rosbbq.com//threadEven the map creator loves this shit.Lol @ shanes rib shack, and lol @ whatever the fuck indie bbq is.NRR is the only non-idiot ITT because he makes his own. Sorry.
3/3/2014 7:45:21 PM
there's only one good bbq restaurant in the state, clearly
3/3/2014 7:48:52 PM
http://bumsrestaurant.com//thread
3/3/2014 7:48:57 PM
i would say the right half of that map is the best one
3/3/2014 7:49:52 PM
ill give em 9 dollarsjust so i can find horrible mistakes in it
3/3/2014 7:50:25 PM
I don't think you need to eat at 250 BBQ joints to get the full range of NC BBQ. 2 or 3 should do it.
3/3/2014 8:12:51 PM
3/3/2014 9:11:57 PM
I make my own too, and it is phenomenal.
3/3/2014 9:19:42 PM
Greensboro is not Lexington style - our Volunteer fire department's BBQ fundraisers were always eastern style
3/3/2014 9:25:21 PM
good bbq is really simple. that's kind of the whole point.
3/3/2014 9:42:40 PM
3/3/2014 10:20:53 PM
3/3/2014 10:46:09 PM
indie = independent = non-chainFUCK YOU, FUCK YOU, FUCK YOU, YOU'RE COOL, I'M OUT
3/3/2014 10:49:13 PM
I want Bob Garner's job. He just has to eat BBQ whether it's the western ketchup crap or good eastern BBQ (though you can tell the difference between gas and wood fired), say that it's good, and profit.
3/4/2014 12:11:40 AM
it always makes me chuckle when people refer to lexington style as "that ketchup crap".it makes it painfully obvious that you've never tasted it.
3/4/2014 7:58:18 AM
this thread is starting to make me wish i could come home and make my own bbq map
3/4/2014 10:01:15 AM
maybe I'm just a rare bbq whore, but I like pretty much any kind of bbq, even that non-pork food dumbshits call bbq.unless it's heavy on mustard. I dislike mustard.[Edited on March 4, 2014 at 10:09 AM. Reason : .]
3/4/2014 10:09:35 AM
so you don't like maurice's? or south carolina bbq in general?
3/4/2014 10:45:03 AM
not if it's heavy on mustard. I've had a few which contained a mustard-based sauce, but didn't taste too much like mustard. I guess that's not tradition SC BBQ, but whatever. I don't each much from SC.
3/4/2014 10:47:25 AM
3/4/2014 10:51:55 AM
o'rly?
3/4/2014 11:38:43 AM
and they can't even get coleslaw right
3/4/2014 11:47:45 AM
3/4/2014 4:22:41 PM
eastern nc bbq relies on the taste of pork and smoke, and generally uses very little sauce. which is the way it should be.
3/4/2014 4:58:48 PM
^ this. I know you^^ are used to dumping sauce in it, and that's why yours was swimming, but that's not how its supposed to be.
3/4/2014 5:00:46 PM
i wonder if short sugar's is still good. I used to go there with my grandma as a kid. and bridges in shelby with my other grandma. and i've eaten at honey monks a bunch too. where are the definitive eastern NC places?
3/4/2014 5:01:45 PM
skylight innparker'swilber's
3/4/2014 5:18:01 PM
The skylight inn - home of the most homophobic motherfuckers that ever lived.Damn good barbeque though.
