Will TJW be back?
3/1/2014 2:19:51 PM
CBI or bust
3/1/2014 2:20:41 PM
Will Cat be back? can't be happy about this:
3/1/2014 2:26:48 PM
A freshman's production went down once conference play begun. Nothing alarming.
3/1/2014 2:32:24 PM
that's minutes, not scoring
3/1/2014 2:34:19 PM
Think he was implying that minutes diminished with lack of production...
3/1/2014 2:46:58 PM
how are you expected to produce when you only get 4 minutes against Virginia Tech?
3/1/2014 2:48:46 PM
^face can say the same thing about Jevoni. Give him minutes. There's a reason Cat is playing lesser minutes. Inexperience.[Edited on March 1, 2014 at 2:55 PM. Reason : ]
3/1/2014 2:55:28 PM
I hope he doesn't transfer. All I'm saying is that it wouldn't surprise me at all
3/1/2014 2:59:35 PM
True. Isn't he a McD AA? How many teams in the country have a PG and a backup PG thats a Burger boy?[Edited on March 1, 2014 at 3:07 PM. Reason : ]

Hope Gott can find a way to convince everyone to stay and not transfer after next season
3/1/2014 3:12:18 PM
iop1Kyle "Mr President" Washington will lead us to an ACC title
3/1/2014 3:33:12 PM
I'll bet Gott sucks even harder this year, and TT will keep defending him

3/1/2014 3:42:34 PM
I know Lewis is a defensive liability, but I really don't see how people are saying that at this point Cat it's getting enough minutes. The offense is significantly better with Lewis out there.
3/1/2014 3:57:43 PM
^^ we may finish worse than that
3/1/2014 4:38:08 PM
next year even if we stay the same which is a huge if to replace warren's points. we fall behind because louisville will be behind us.miami and notre dame will also be rebuilt. maryland won't be available for beating either. none of the teams ahead of us will get significantly worse.
3/1/2014 4:58:58 PM
The scale on that chart is 4 minutes. hahahaha. Fox news type graph there.Anyway, go ahead and create the NC State Basketball 2015-2016 thread if warren doesn't come back. This season was a disaster because Lewis and Barber didn't turn out to be good guards. Barber really has the potential, but we needed him to be good when we had Warren.[Edited on March 1, 2014 at 5:16 PM. Reason : .]
3/1/2014 5:15:07 PM
Does Barber really have the potential? He's physically talented, but so was Courtney Fells.
3/1/2014 5:19:27 PM
yeah, but Fells had Lowe. wait... shit
3/1/2014 5:21:46 PM
Fells is still killing it in the D-League
3/1/2014 5:24:16 PM
imagine if he had had a real coach
3/1/2014 5:33:14 PM
I'm just going to assume Warren is gone. We also lose Vandy. Cat has potential. What I like is that he can score, he causes the other team to put a man on him at all times, and he's a good defender (better than Lewis anyway). His main problem is the turnovers - whether they come off a stupid pass, or just sloppy dribbling. He'll improve his vision and I think he can be a threat in passing. If he develops a good outside jump shot or hits some 3's he could be great. Lewis is a stronger guard right now because he doesn't turn the ball over and every once in a while he can hit a three with a good look. He lacks in defense and doesn't draw much attention on offense, allowing them to essentially double somebody else (Warren) because they know he only shoots if it's a last resort. I could see him improving his jumper a bit, and with proper coaching maybe the defense. I wouldn't write him off at all. Anya would be great if he lost some damn weight. Imagine what he could do if he dropped some pounds like Howell or Vandy did. He'd get more minutes and increase his vertical. Washington and Freeman both play really hard and they have a ton of potential moving forward once they get used to ACC pace. Lee has his streaks where he's great, but I think he tries to do too much sometimes and causes turnovers. I've seen several instances where he essentially tries to take over the point and it just doesn't work out. If he can just make smarter passes and not force shots, he'll be good. If Caleb/Cody Martin are all they're cracked up to be, we'll finally get some good outside shooters and add some much needed depth. Abu should also be good, but you can never tell what guys are going to do as freshmen. tl;dr - this team has talent, but lacks experience. they should be able to build on it and do have potential. I'd expect a repeat of this year in 2014 but in 2015 we should be pretty good.
3/1/2014 5:53:55 PM
remember when we thought lewis was better than paige and cat was better than both? lol
3/1/2014 5:58:08 PM
when Zo was out for those few games last year, Lewis looked untouchable. I'll never forget that drive into a no-look behind the back pass to Wood for a three.

Let's do a review of 2013-14 (since it is now over).Remember that a statistical review of last season accurately predicted that TBDV would be our #2 (returning) stunnaObviously we lose our best offensive and defensive player. Ralston will be our #1 stunna. We will add Trevor "Shoe" Lacey as a transfer from Alabama. He's supposed to be more dynamic as an offensive player than Turner but is also noted as not an especially athletic or interested defender (sounds like he'll fit in!). I think it's fair to project him for similar returns as Turner this season, making him our #2 stunna. Our #3 stunna will either be Freeman or Dez Lee. Given that Lee will be a senior and Gott apparently thinks our worst scholarship player is better than Freeman, I have a feeling Dez will be throwing up the X for Jamaica as our #3.An I'll give Ya a Beejay has some projectable upside as the only player with a DRtg that isn't completely fucking terrible. Put him on the Richard Howell plan over the offseason and we may have five Division I power conference quality players next year, unfortunately none of them will be a point guard.Kyle Washington's goal for 2015: Don't contribute wins to the opposition with your play on offenseThis, of course, is all assuming our coach continues not to play our best players.

b-b-b-but gott's a great coach, i thought
3/1/2014 8:34:50 PM
^^ i won't knock em till we seen em. i originally thought cat barber would have been a solid shooter from the get go.i just don't want to set a normal precedent after purvis-gate leading to barber transferring. having diva's who will bounce if they don't get what they want even if they can't produce is toxic for a rebuilding program.
3/1/2014 9:15:37 PM
3/1/2014 9:17:08 PM
this rebuilding program talk is like saying north korea is a developing nation. it just aint happening.
3/1/2014 9:22:20 PM
Not sure why people are so down on Washington. He has played the best of all the freshman this year.
3/1/2014 9:27:59 PM
the sunshine crew on packpride have decided one of the martins is a good 3 point shooter. i think it's bullshit. i watched approx 10 mins of oak hill play this year and they look ok. they're 6'6ish swingmen who have major conference bodies and athleticism but nothing really stands out. reminds me of the type of player stanford usually has playing SF. i'm guessing they suck next year but if they stick around they'll be good as upper classmen
3/1/2014 10:22:55 PM
Don't do it to yourselves guys. Find something else to keep you occupied.

I think this team is going to be pretty good next year. A few things need to happen and I don't think any of them are too much to ask for:- Anya needs to get in shape. He's a beast even as a fat-ass. If he gets on the Richard Howell plan, I can't imagine how much his game will improve with better conditioning and being faster/quicker. - Washington needs to bulk up a bit and Freeman needs to refine his game. Washington has all the tools, just needs to fill out so he can really bang with the big boys. I was actually surprised with Freeman's offensive game at times. At the beginning of the year he looked like a 4-year Corndog type of player. But if we can get 8-10 points a game out of him, it would make our frontcourt even more formidable.- Point guards need to step their outside game up. They don't need to be Scott Wood, they just have to hit the open three.- Someone needs to step up and be the "give him the ball at the end of the shot clock" guy. I don't think Turner has the handles. I don't think Lee is a good enough shooter to be on the floor enough to be that guy. Barber could be that dude, I just think he needs to bulk up a bit so he can take the contact in the lane. I'm guessing/hoping it will be Lacey, but I don't want to put that on a guy who hasn't had any game time in a year. - Freshmen just need to be serviceable. People are really high on Abu...but he just needs to give us a solid 10-15 minutes of rebounding, defense, and putbacks. Anything extra is gravy. Same goes for the Martin twins. They're long and versatile. Just come in and play good defense and don't turn the ball over. Same with Abu...anything extra is gravy.I think this is a top 5 ACC team next year.Oh...and taken from EMCE in the game thread:
3/21/2014 7:49:49 AM
Hard for me to think about next year right now, but we should be alright. Depends on how guys treat the offseason. Do they want to get better and spend every day getting better? Or do they "ho-hum" it?
3/21/2014 8:10:12 AM
1) Lacey averages 15 to fill some of TJW's void2) Freshmen all get better physically/mentally3) Barber/Lewis both stay and work on their outside shotsCould be a solid and deep team. Deepest Gott has had yet. We will be fine.
3/21/2014 9:17:35 AM
Assuming everyone but TJ is back, I think we'll go back to being a balanced scoring team like we were Gott's first two years. I can see Lacey, Cat, Ralston averaging 12-15 while guys like Freeman, Tyler, Washington, Abu, and Anya get 6-8. Not sure what to expect from the twins.Lee is the wildcard. If he improves his 3pt shot and develops any sort of mid-range floater, he could be a really solid scorer. He can get in the lane any time he wants -- he just needs to pull up instead of taking it all the way in sometimes.
3/21/2014 9:58:00 AM
Lee is going to be a senior next year. He isn't a wildcard. He is what he is.
3/21/2014 10:04:01 AM
I'm not expecting too much extra out of Lee either. Maybe a little more consistent play now that he's had a year of experience at the D-1 level. I do think he can do a better job of hitting the open 3 (like he did last night)...but nobody should expect him to start dropping 15 a game next year.
3/21/2014 10:07:42 AM
Yeah, he's a senior, but this was his first year playing D-I ball. I'm not expecting any dramatic improvement, just hoping he will eliminate a few bad decisions and maybe improve his 3-pointer just a little.
3/21/2014 10:09:07 AM
^^^ same thing people said about Vandy before this year and he had several solid games (and also several bad ones).
3/21/2014 10:10:58 AM
3/21/2014 10:15:41 AM
JUCO players improving after a year of D1 ball isn't out of the question.
