So I've been at a trade show bullshitting with people all week and some of the egos I've come across have absolutely blown me away (just seems to be a concentration of assholes for some reason).Caused me to self-reflect a little and naturally my mind wondered to "how does the internetz feel about ego?"Would you say you have a big ego? How much energy do you spend stoking it? Any good/bad experiences with your or someone else's ego.

Self-confidence is one thing. Arrogance is another, and it usually seems to stem from insecurities. I don't care for arrogant fuckes.

Yea, agree. There's a pretty big dividing line between self-confidence/self-esteem and big egos.I mean I met some guy that seemed to have crafted an internal legend for himself. I thought it was borderline self delusion, living in his own make believe reality. Crazy.I'm trying to raise awareness y'all.

when i have to travel alone to conferences for work i usually come out of them pissed off enough my only recourse is to drown myself in chinese food, diarrhea, and red stripe.

^^lol, funny because it pretty accurately reflects a couple of my evening this weekWell damn, maybe this is a conference thing. What the hell is it about these that attracts these people.(I've also met some pretty great people this week, too. So it's not everyone.)

depending on your field of study/work, conferences are often the only professional social interaction these people experience over the course of a year.in other words they might typically be the expert in the office, isolated in their little ego enhancing bubble, mr fix it, whatever you want to call it.never seeing another soul with their same degree or qualifications.then they travel to THE RAW-LEE CONVENTION CENTER and feel the urge to swing their not-so-big cock of academia and its largely laughable.i dont bother swinging mine because i know its rather small, so i just walk around scooping up all the freebies and chit-chatting with people in an easy going way to leave good impressions. i also have a thing for giving and receiving business cards.you know some people have metal business cards? holy shit!

So I've been volunteering some for the organization putting on the conference by working in their merch store trying to sell overpriced polo shirts with the organization insignia on it.One thing they used to do at these conferences is give out these little ribbons to hang off your pass/name tag with your chapter, years with the org, positions in the org (president, etc) and a bunch of others. They're trying to kinda phase this out but they have some from past events so they are just giving out whatever they have left.I've had so many people absolutely grill me on "where's XYZ ribbon they had last year?" "I saw someone with XYZ ribbon in the expo hall, give me one". Like they are afraid someone is going to judge them if they just have 5 ribbons hanging off their shit instead of 10. Absolutely mind boggling.

its fun at conferences to watch how people dress.ive tried so many attire combos to see if it changes the way people interact with me.these events are ripe grounds for experimentation.

Meditated the entire flight home. Pretty sure I achieved an ego-free nirvana at one point.
