Depends on your ticket type, and how frequent you fly. They'll typically charge you, but you might could persuade the person.

If its southwest they will gladly change it if they can, if its american airlines bend over.

US Airways wanted $200 to change to an earlier flight from JAX to CLT last fall. and it wasn't even full.

I think Delta lets you fly same-day for free, if they canotherwise it's $150this should be really useful info for you, since you're flying US Air

Yeah ill wait it out

As long as it's same day, just go to the airport early and let them know. There's no "official" policy, but I've never had a problem in 10+ years with US Airways getting on an earlier flight to the same destination on standby. Especially if you get there for the FIRST flight of the day, you should be fine.Occasionally I haven't been able to do it, but it's been because the flights were literally full/overbooked due to holidays or weather problems.

Last time I tried, US Air wanted $75 to go on an earlier flight.

Agreed. I tried to do that last week and it was $75 with US Airways. I waited the extra two hours.

Wow, that blows. Maybe because I had status with them? It's been a couple of years.Ah yep, that's why http://www.usairways.com/en-US/traveltools/specialneeds/MoveUp.htmlIf you're a Dividend Miles Preferred or AAdvantage status holder (aka you own a USAir or AA credit card, or have frequent flier status), they waive the fee. The USAirways Mastercard has been amazing for stuff like this that I guess I never thought about. Yearly companion pass, no award fees, free checked bags, cheaper reward flights, 1st class checkin, priority boarding, etc.[Edited on February 27, 2014 at 3:43 AM. Reason : .]

The $75 fee is such bullshit. If you show up and there is an extra slot, why the fuck does it matter if you fly now or your originally scheduled flight 3 hours later?
2/27/2014 8:46:33 AM
and i was still late getting home. plan was delayed for an hour while they did some bullshit.

Like everyone says, it really depends. I had to do this with Delta last year - they wanted $150 on the site, but I just went ahead to LGA and managed to somehow get it changed for no extra charge.
