Quite wrong. people want those things. Banning them would engender a black market in them, resulting in the more widespread use of inefficient production and distribution technology.

^people in 3rd world countries already scour certain landfills for metals contained in discarded electronics and what not. I would bet that in the far future landfills will be an excellent archaeological tool for future/post-humans.
