Kind of like dumpster diving, but safer I guess. I'm down with this idea.http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2013/09/21/222082247/trader-joes-ex-president-to-turn-expired-food-into-cheap-meals

with as laced as food is nowadays with preservatives and synthetic chemicals, an expiration date is usually nothing more than a "sell by" date. I, for one, welcome our new "expired foods" overlords.

They have had these salvage stores for years up north. Nothing wrong with the food specially canned items.

yeah there is a place near us that gets lots of past-date items from whole foods, earth fare, TJs, Ingles, and Publix. Every other Saturday morning you can go and everything you can fit into their provided boxes is $8 We get crackers, peanut butter, granola bars..things that are still good WELL beyond their store dates. We go every other month (because with two of us, we would just waste the food otherwise because you can fit a lot in the boxes). Last weekend we went and got about $150 of food (using the normal prices at the above-mentioned stores) for $8
