Does anyone know in what order I should watch the series and movies? I started off with Naruto and am about to move on to Shipuuden, but found that there are movies as well.

IIRC, Naruto movies are pretty much just like any other Anime movies. They have absolutely no place in the series and are more just for fun and watching the characters go all out for a particular moment in time. The only ones that deviate from this mantra are usually ones that finish out a series (re: the original Full Metal Alchemist series).I always just consider anime movies based on a series as fan fiction.

or in some cases they're just retouched parts of the original series made into a higher quality production

Thanks, I just started it on hulu and it's not bad. Kind of a slow start, but once past that... It's pretty good!

Naruto is good, but has some awful filler episodes that you should skip at all costs. I found this guide that details how to watch it with minimal filler episodes.Guide to watching Naruto without Filler :Watch episodes 1-100Skip at 101-106Pick up at 107-135Drop or Skip at 135-219Pick up or Skip at 220 (Start the episode at 12:02. You will see a little bit of the eye burning filler so dont worry about the scenes you don’t understand. All you have to understand is that in this episode: Everyone returns to the Hidden Leaf Village and resume their training. Ino makes a request to also become Tsunade's student and everyone says goodbye to Naruto, who is about to head off for his two-and-a-half years of training with Jiraiya (who returned with information about Akatsuki's plans) You could skip this episode. It is optional.Guide to watching Naruto: Shippuden without Filler:Watch episodes 1-56Skip at 57-7071 - Last 10 min or so is manga material. But is relevant for the next arc.Pick up at 72-89Skip at 90-111Pick up or Skip - 112 - Last 10 min or so is manga material. But is relevant for the next arc. You will see eye burning filler but all you need to know is that the akatsuki captures the three tails.Pick up at 113-143Skip at 144-151Pick up at 152-169Skip at 170 & 171Pick up at 172-175Skip at 176-196 (Some of this arc has filler mixed in with manga material so for those who care about the 100% completion and dont mind seeing a little burning lol, check out the spoiler below.)Pick up at 197-222Skip 223-242Pick up at 243-256257 - half filler/half mangaSkip 258-260Pick up at 261-278Skip 279-281Pick up at 282-283Skip 284-295Pick up at 296-302Skip 303-320Pick up at 321-Source - http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=350747#xiqojlKFxLeIzCT2.99This post was from July 31, 2013, so it's a few months out of date, but it will get you started You definitely don't need to watch the movies either. Anime movies based on existing series seem to be made for casual fans only, so nothing of significance ever happens, and they are usually let downs. Sometimes the movie just doesn't fit into the timeline at all, and that bothers me when I am invested in the anime.

Some of the fillers can be provide more substance I think. The episode where Sasuke, Sakura and Naruto try to find out what's under Kakashi's mask could be called a filler, but it only adds to Sasuke's innocence as a child... that in spite of his brother's actions which continue to haunt him in a form of guilt and plans for vengeance, he is still ultimately a kid who is curious a great deal about the world around him.Seeing that, and his imminent fall, I think those kinds of episodes lend a great deal to the kind of characters they are. These aren't necessarily bad guys, but they went down a path to do the right thing... and who would be the one to say which path is the right way?

you should try Bleach

I understand where you are coming from. The early fillers "fill-out" the main story with some details on the day-to-day lives of the characters, and they end up adding to the story. You should be fine watching every episode of Naruto until episode 135. After about episode 135, you should try watching some episodes and see how long you can stand it. For your sanity, don'y try to be a competitionist. Every episode until 220 is filler, completely unnecessary, and is never referred to again.

Now, when Bleach started having fillers after the first major story arc, they decided to make them into one large arc, and it was actually interesting and worth watching. They introduced interesting characters and there was a satisfactory ending. Unlike Bleach, the Naruto fillers were all short arcs full of cookie cutter characters from stale anime tropes, and there was no pay-off for watching them through to the end.
