Wtf earth, this is not acceptable

http://www.fireandreamitchell.com/2014/01/03/polar-vortex-colder-canada-mars-thought-global-warming/

Polar Vortex – It’s colder in Canada than it is on Mars – But I thought Global Warming?

Quote :
"Polar Vortex – the next excuse for the Global Warming loons to explain why they redefined global warming to ‘climate change.’ On New Years’ Day, it was colder in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada than it it on the planet Mars. The temperature in Winnipeg reached -31 C (or -24 F). It was ‘only’ -29 C on Mars on the same day. Some parts of Manitoba were as cold as -50C, as the Canadian province has had it’s coldest winter so far in 80 years."

For you yanks, -50 C = -58 F

And apparently it reached -65 C (-85 F) in Kazakhstan, but I haven't confirmed it yet on the interwebs.

I believe it is a good bit more surprising that it was colder in Mexico than in Maine... but that's just me.

^^^

Summer = apples

Winter = oranges

Pls to not compare apples with oranges

And the comparison I posted does even better: it compares the temp on the same day, not just a generic/average winter temp.

Kazakhstan is the coldest place I have ever spent any time in. With nothing to block the wind on the steppe, the cold temps are only made more brutal. Can't say I'd like to spend an entire winter there.

your comparison is crap. you compared the LOW temperature of a specific place on Earth in the winter to some HIGH temperature somewhere at some time on mars. (i guarantee you the low at that spot on mars got way colder than that for it's low for the day.)

Well I have no way of checking if that's the low temp or not. I am assuming in good faith that they compared low in Manitoba to low at some place on mars for the same day.

But come to think of it, yes, on mars it should go down a lot lower. It is, after all, a lot further away from the sun.

that and the fact that mars has a much thinner atmosphere... it doesn't hold heat very well at night. ("hot" summer days on mars have -100 degree nights)

why the hate? it's still an interesting, random fun fact.

BTW, it's warmed up in Canada since then, since the low pressure system ('polar vortex'-- hate this term, as a new low formed a while ago over the pole) dipped down into the US. The only place that's as cold as that now is Resolute Bay, which is pretty much the most northern settlement in North America (farther north than anywhere in Alaska!) http://goo.gl/maps/7Ymhv

It's a relatively balmy 10°F this morning where i live, and only 0°F in Regina and Sudbury. and it's gonna be 45°F and raining this weekend, whoo hoo heat wave!! I was joking about going outside and washing stuff off with the hose.

I'm glad Smath came in and laid out the planetary science facts, I read the title and came to post the same thing.

Sidenote that wasn't mentioned: Mars is on a completely different orbit right now so it's seasons are different. Although the tilt of it's axis is about the same as Earth it isn't necessarily winter/summer there right now.
