I had this problem once.

It was difficult. I had what was called anterograde amnesia. I don't know the specifics, but I kept waking up at a Discount Inn with no recollection of the day before. I developed a system of keeping notes on me, taking Polaroid photos, and tattooing critical information on my body like peoples names and license plate numbers.

It was a pretty efficient system, and I was eventually able to find the man who killed my wife. At least, I think it was him. I can't be too sure.
