on average?

I don't get it. How is a pint of 5% beer equivalent to 3 shots of liquor? I always thought it was "healthier" to have a few beers vs a few liquor drinks/cocktails[Edited on December 19, 2013 at 3:01 PM. Reason : /]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_of_alcoholA single measure of spirit is only 25ml, ~.8 ounces.

I drink probably 8 units 1-2 times a week so my daily average is max 2.2. Lots of weeks I go without drinking so it's probably much less. Just depends on how annoying the kids are being.
12/19/2013 3:36:52 PM
the hell is alcopop?...damn limeys.
12/19/2013 3:36:53 PM
about 1 mole
12/19/2013 4:40:07 PM
Last night I had 8 units, but that was for a celebration. Tonight I'll probably have 10 units, to celebrate my awesomeness.

20 vs 16 oz
12/19/2013 4:59:36 PM
1 Pint = 1/8 GallonProblem isUK Gallon (Imperial Gallon) > US Liquid GallonUS Pint ~ 473 mlUK Pint ~ 568 ml (about 20% larger)This explains all the finer detailshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pint^ True, but there is a difference between the US liquid fluid ounce and UK Imperial fluid ounce as well. The US fluid ounce is about 4% larger than the UK fluid ounce.[Edited on December 19, 2013 at 5:02 PM. Reason : ]

An American pint glass is 16 oz.An Imperial (British) pint is 20 oz.All other things being equal, 5 beers at an American bar = 4 beers at a British bar.
12/19/2013 5:01:23 PM
^ no, to the last statement (but it is good enough as a rough approximation for daily use) 6 beers at an American bar = 5 beers at a British bar.Is almost an exact equivalence.
12/19/2013 5:06:12 PM
They have their own ounces too? Fuckin' Brits
12/19/2013 5:34:27 PM
also a billion used to be a million millions to the brits.
12/19/2013 5:38:08 PM
1 imperial fluid ounce = volume of 1 ounce avoirdupois (mass) of water at 62 F.So, it is based on something physical, and not somewhat arbitrary like the the US customary fluid ounce. The avoirdupois system came in to use in England in the 1300s, so, it is way older. It started even before that, either in France or in Italy.

my daily average over the last year is probably like 1/12and really, I drink much less frequently than even that low ratio might suggest...I only drink about 2-5 times a year, but on those occasions I consume 7-15 beers and make an utter ass of myselfthis is why I try not to drink at all...but sometimes it's fun]
12/19/2013 11:06:18 PM
according to this scale, about 1-2/day. though I normally only drink 3 beers/day once or twice a week.
12/20/2013 9:21:38 AM
Most days 2-4. I usually have at least one beer, and sometimes a second beer or glass of wine or single bourbon.

^^staying with teetolaler grandparents for week of Christmas equals no booze for me until Thursday night. Crazy that at 32 I can not disclose that I have a beer on occasion with my parents or grandparents. Great grandfather was an alcoholic asshole, so my grandfather has a good reason to not be a fan.
12/24/2013 9:25:04 PM
I quit drinking in June so my average is probably 3 drinks a day.
12/25/2013 12:52:19 PM
