So I know all you purists will hate it because it's not a v12 a v10 or a v8.....But this new turbo tech is flipping sweet and I hope it "trickles down" ASAP.So I don't even know if they have a waste gate, it appears that all turbine energy is harvested. Some for operating the compressor and some is stored in a battery pack to drive the compressor until the engine can spool it.It seems like if there is a waste gate it would be electric and function once the .5555kwh battery is fully charged. That's what I have picked up at least anyone got anything else ?

Thanks for posting the specs

Engine - it’s out with 2.4-litre normally-aspirated V8 engines and in with 1.6-litre V6 turbo engines, revving to a maximum of 15,000rpm. The current engines produce more than 750bhp, whilst the 2014 units will produce around 600bhp with additional power coming from Energy Recovery Systems 2 mega joules worth of kers in the turbo and 2 more on the driveline it's self.

Obviously I know little to nothing about thisbut how in the hell are they going to keep that thing cool? Is that a ridiculous question?
12/3/2013 10:14:47 AM
I'm sure the piston sleeves etc are finned to hell to increase cooling area. Turbo is inter cooled and the car will have dual radiators I think.
12/3/2013 10:54:40 AM
Does that energy recover system not build up a lot of heat? I mean, Im' sure they deal with it either way, but I'd imagine it makes it way harder with all that crap. The thing is going to be a massive refrigerator on wheels [Edited on December 3, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Reason : ]

Shit I'd liquid cool everything but the turbine.
12/3/2013 11:00:30 AM
These new turbo engines sound pretty damn weak compared to the turbo engines of the 80s. And that doesn't make sense to me

They haven't had turbos so it wasn't off the turbine and it didn't spin the compressor.Adds a whole new heat/rpm component.
12/3/2013 5:09:09 PM
i'd rather see misfire systems
12/3/2013 5:39:36 PM
formula ecoboost
12/3/2013 9:18:12 PM
when they gonna have variable ar ratio turbos?
12/10/2013 10:51:14 AM
When the materials are capable of doing so with the egts of the fuels they run.Or with the new electric assist.... Never.
12/10/2013 11:24:54 AM
just another lame series now
3/15/2014 9:21:07 PM
Real dumb, just put v12's in them and let them scream.
3/15/2014 9:25:02 PM
Melbourne qualifying was a hell of a show. We'll see how this race goes.
3/16/2014 2:01:41 AM
they should have made it 3.8 liters and used buick grand national enginesat least that fucknut ecclestone is toast
3/16/2014 9:13:07 PM
Fun first race, but compared of the engines of the previous 2 decades these turbo V6s sound horrible.
3/17/2014 9:00:59 AM
If people are complaining about the exhaust sound now, just wait until F1 mandates 100% electric cars in 2016. It'll make a horse race seem raucous.

Sounds like the things off the jetsuns.
3/18/2014 5:49:09 AM
Well that rules out me making a trip to Texas. I will never go to a quiet race.
3/18/2014 6:55:08 AM
Doesn't sound quiet... Just weird....

Yes I know that, but it sounds 1 miilion times better than that silent V6. A race without loud engines is not exciting.I should get a flat plane crank for my car.[Edited on March 18, 2014 at 9:05 AM. Reason : sweet sweet music.]
3/18/2014 9:01:55 AM
^just checking. I mean...they're still loud. It's just not an exotic or alluring sound.

Formula E will become Formula 1 in the next couple of years. Electric cars are the future. If F1 keeps using gas engines they'll be just as antiquated as NASCAR. Don't they sound glorious?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lipRfJx0aHg

i swear that '14 engine video above sounds just like Mario Karts at some point in the game (passing, finish line, etc)
