Yea, definitely not buying it.Of course as much as I've been wrong about tech shit lately, it'll probably be insanely successful.

Joe Redneck can't wait to start shooting those things down.

NSA's wet dream. Let amazon spend the money and develop the tech, the NSA will just hack in to those drones and keep an eye on the citizens.
12/2/2013 9:58:12 PM
Didn't Dominos already do this?
12/2/2013 10:01:25 PM
seriously, people will be shooting these things down left and right and stealing the shit
12/2/2013 10:03:39 PM
It's just Amazon attention whoring to get their name in the news on Cyber Monday.

so if you are located 10 miles from the center of these dots (which have a radius larger than 10 miles) in some unknown number of years you can maybe get packages in 30 minutes if what you are purchasing doesn't have to be transferred from another distribution center or vendor! Amazing!
12/3/2013 10:08:42 AM
Stepping onto someone's property or opening their mailbox is somehow more difficult (and a bigger deterrent) than opening fire on an drone as it randomly passes overhead??GPS + cameras make it a very high likelihood of behind caught by authorities and the legal & financial repercussions would be much greater than simple theft.[Edited on December 3, 2013 at 10:11 AM. Reason : my point is it is silly to SERIOUSLY believe these things will be shot down]
12/3/2013 10:09:10 AM
i don't live within range of these drones. this technology is useless to me.
12/3/2013 10:09:43 AM
I wonder what kind of firepower it would take to shoot one down? No clue how big these things are (I haven't watched the video yet)... also could be armored. If you can't shoot it down with standard calibers that would make it much less likely. Also wondering what the lift capability is--seems like there would be many not-too-difficult ways to snare one of these things with a sufficiently weighted restraint.Plus the liability issues, when one flies through somebody's window, drops a heavy box on someone's head, etc.etc. I just don't see it being feasible.
12/3/2013 10:24:10 AM
did you really wonder if they are armored? seriously?
12/3/2013 10:29:55 AM
^^there was a piece on this on 60 minutes (or some similar show... i don't usually watch these) and Jeff Bezos said the hardest part of development would be redundant systems to prevent packages being dropped on people and/or helicopter blades slashing through property/people, etc.
12/3/2013 10:34:07 AM
I'm not talking military-grade armor, just someting heavier-duty than standard aircraft-type skin on the bottom surfaces...

Its all fun in games until a drone crashes on a major highway.

Instead of exposing themselves to ground fire, maybe the drones will just stay at altitude and accurately deliver packages with Amazone Primefire missiles.

In other news todayhttp://arstechnica.com/security/2013/12/flying-hacker-contraption-hunts-other-drones-turns-them-into-zombies/Screw shooting them, just hijack them. Honestly I see jamming them happening more than shooting them.

twas just a masterfully played publicity stunt for amazon and 60 mins/ everyone else in the media fell for it. on "cyber monday" amazon was mentioned every 15min on the news and all it cost them was the price of a drone mockup and the 10$ they paid some kid to stand in the corner w/ a remote control
