I'll preface this request by saying I've minimal knowledge of circuit design and things of that nature. I do know how a relay works...

I'm working on a latching circuit using a momentary switch. Below is a diagram of what I have found so far to create the circuit (Latched On/Off Output Using a Single Momentary Negative Pulse - Positive Output), but in my case will be adding another relay on the output to change the output state from positive to negative.

What I want to know is - how can this circuit be made with equipment that is physically smaller, but yet still cost effective/easy/etc. ? Smaller relays? miniature PLC?

This will be utilized to control the electric overdrive and torque converter lock functions on a truck transmission. (I do not know the current draw for the output circuit).

If I interpret the datasheet correctly, that relay requires separate inputs to switch states on the relay - and it's controlling (2) separate outputs as well-

- I don't think that's what I'm after

BUT - that physical size and 'arrangement' IS the type of thing. I'll dig deeper to see if that vendor offers other setups

It might not be any cheaper, but if you want to use local Radio Shack parts you could use this

or

(Relay Toggle Circuit Using a 555 or 556 Timer, Radio Shack carries both)
