is not the same as wearing blackface
10/26/2013 4:25:06 PM
Just do it and wear the costume. It isn't racist as long as you aren't trying to impersonate a person of another race.10, 9, 8,...
10/26/2013 4:34:20 PM
you can even be impersonating someone, blackface is about using stereotypes in minstrel shows. or example, this is not offensive and its not blackface:
10/26/2013 4:37:16 PM
to whom is that not offensive?
10/26/2013 4:52:44 PM
My neighbors and I are planning on burning a giant letter "t" on Halloween. Kind of a message to celebrate "t"rick or "t"reat. Not racists at all.
10/26/2013 5:04:33 PM
blackface is blackface, b.
10/26/2013 5:08:24 PM

I'm with dtownral on this one.I truly hope he goes out in blackface and doesn't offend anyone at all.
10/26/2013 5:15:36 PM
^^ do you post on the Raleigh city-data.com forum?
10/26/2013 5:16:55 PM
no, i didn't know there was a raleigh forum somewhere. is it active?
10/26/2013 5:18:02 PM
i'm with dtownral. there is a world of difference between "dressing/making yourself up as a black person" and "blackface".[Edited on October 26, 2013 at 5:28 PM. Reason : blackface is a specific thing.]
10/26/2013 5:28:16 PM
I'm pretty sure if you Google "black face" the first link is a news article with that picture in which Julianne Hough apologizes for offending so many people with black face
10/26/2013 5:36:31 PM
Her face wasn't dark enough, didn't look anything like the character
10/26/2013 5:38:20 PM
hmmmm, i wonder why i used that picture. could it be because its in the news and is ridiculous?no way, that's too obviousgoogle "blackface" and click the wikipedia link
10/26/2013 5:39:16 PM
^^^ whatever. still not blackface.if you want to argue whether that is offensive, then go ahead. I think it's ridiculous to throw a flag simply for a white person dressing up like a black person, but that's a discussion that could be had, at least in the sense that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, however silly they are. Calling that first picture "blackface" is simply incorrect, though.[Edited on October 26, 2013 at 5:43 PM. Reason : ][Edited on October 26, 2013 at 5:45 PM. Reason : ]

Yeah I assumed you were trolling knew what you were posting with that, but all the bandwagon jumpers probably aren't aware that she offended a lot of people with that costume.^How is a white person who darkens there face to look like a black person not black face?[Edited on October 26, 2013 at 5:48 PM. 10/26/2013 5:44:49 PM
Julianna Hough shouldn't have had to apologize for dressing as Crazy Eyes from OITNB. I think it's ridiculous that some people are offended by her costume.
10/26/2013 5:49:18 PM
blackface is a specific subset of offensive face painting which is a subset of costumes that involve painting your face brown[Edited on October 26, 2013 at 5:51 PM. Reason : ^^because its "blackface" not "black face", and it has a specific meaning]
10/26/2013 5:49:59 PM
Since when is bronzer "blackface."Black people should be offended by Jersey Shore.[Edited on October 26, 2013 at 5:52 PM. Reason : GTL!]

^^ I believe that's called "orange face"But what Julianne Hough did was blackface. She's a white actress portraying a black character by darkening her skin, either with shoe polish or tanner, it doesn't make a difference, it's black face. Now, whether it's offensive or not is a different argument. I would judge by the reaction she's received, it's offensive, enough so that she had to apologize for it. Either way, what half wit white chick would think it was a good idea to dress up as a black prisoner as a halloween outfit? Especially since if they were going for an Orange Is The New Black ensemble, there's enough crazy identifiable white prisoners to choose from.[Edited on October 26, 2013 at 5:59 PM. Reason : ][Edited on October 26, 2013 at 6:02 PM. Reason : blackface not black face]
10/26/2013 5:59:00 PM
dude, its "blackface" not "black face"and no, that's not blackface[Edited on October 26, 2013 at 6:02 PM. Reason : the reaction is just from the media, which wants it to be a story]
10/26/2013 5:59:49 PM
i thought the chick up there was a guidette nurse
10/26/2013 6:01:37 PM
It is not blackface. That much is not debatable, any more than you could argue that 1+1=3. It just isn't. Period. There's nothing to discuss. Arguing otherwise is simply a tell of ignorance; that you don't know what blackface is.I also think that it's pretty clear that it was offensive. I mean, people were offended. That's pretty clear cut. The only thing that is really up for debate is whether it's reasonable that they were offended. I would argue "no", and it would have been totally reasonable to tell them all to get fucked; if you are hypersensitive to an unreasonable extreme, that's your problem, not the rest of the world's. I think this is within that realm, though maybe on the border of "OK, at least some reasonable people could take at least some offense." At any rate, I'm sure she said "fuck it, being right isn't worth the fight on this one; I'd rather just placate these motherfuckers."[Edited on October 26, 2013 at 6:11 PM. Reason : ]

wikipedia that shit, its not blackface. its just not. its no more blackface than it is a big bird costume.you are confusing "blackface" with "any costume that involves dark painted faces that the media or other people find offensive"[Edited on October 26, 2013 at 6:13 PM. 10/26/2013 6:12:35 PM
Jesus tittyfucking Christ, by your own definition, it isn't blackface.[Edited on October 26, 2013 at 6:14 PM. Reason : ^^ blackface is absolutely offensive. That is damn near its raison d'ĂȘtre.][Edited on October 26, 2013 at 6:14 PM. Reason : ]

10/26/2013 6:16:24 PM
As a lover of grapes, I find that offensive....and if you don't like grapes, you hardly qualify to say "that's fucking ridiculous."
10/26/2013 6:21:52 PM
It is blackface. That much is not debatable, any more than you could argue that 1+1=! 2. It just is. Period. There's nothing to discuss. Arguing otherwise is simply a tell of ignorance; that you don't know what blackface is.

^^Where did I say you were? You have to experience it in order to perpetuate it?Oh, and anyone who thinks a white kid dressing like Dennis Rodman (etc) for Halloween is the same thing as 19th century theatre has serious problems.I suggest getting a hobby or otherwise soothing your white guilt. Why isn't God in this thread? Halloween is a day, really an entire week where people shouldn't be offended by anything.I mean people dress up as far more terrible things than that Trayvon bullshit, but the PC police only flip their lids when it involves black people (more specifically recent killed famous young black people).Whatever.Kids in NC still dress up as INJUNS at Thanksgiving and go whooping around their elementary schools like idiots.

Unless you're having a professionals makeup artist do it, there's no way to color your face to look like another race, that doesn't look like a mockery of their skin color. Even if you're not trying to look like another race, you know what you're doing, and is to easy to seem mocking. It's like calling a predominantly black audience niggardly.
