This is mostly about family, and I know it happens often, but why do people think you're judging them simply because you don't agree with their politics and are willing to argue/debate about them? Does it happen to any of you often? I mean, other than hating on some of you faceless cocksuckers, I'm generally non-judgmental and my political views are irrelevant.

Saw family today that had added me on facebook a while ago, and a few kept their distance and I know it was because I pissed them off over political shit. Of course, one of them actually mentioned it and we had a laugh and acted like normal fucking human beings.

because much of their self-worth is based on the rightness of their opinions, so if you're arguing about them they take it as a personal attack

also I've looked through your post history and can tell this is especially true about the types you'd argue with; it hurts their poor conservative fee-fees too much to be shown just how wrong they are

How'd you piss them off?

The Internet is for real to some people--serious bidness and all that.

^^ lol

^ just being willing to point out that some of the things/articles they post are bullshit (not in that way, obviously). Not that I do things any better, but it won't piss me off if anyone comments on it or has a different viewpoint.

i'll argue politics with friends and family.

I'm pretty gentle unless it's a friend that I know can go blow-for-blow. I don't really lock horns over disagreement of policy and philosophy. I'm not very good at letting just flat-out erroneous logic or incorrect facts go, though. Nor do I really have any interest in doing so.

Same here. As far as the bullshit facts go, I do the same and I'd expect someone to do the same for me if I wind up saying something that's factually incorrect.

I used to work with a guy that would argue nonstop and it was hilarious and fun. We'd wind up insulting the shit out of each before going back to work laughing our asses off.

yeah, friends at work who can take it, who are legitimately knowledgable, yeah, i go full-on fangs-out with them. that's different from arguing with family members whom (a) you actually care if you hurt their feelings, and there's a legitimate chance that might happen, and (b) it's like clubbing baby seals to begin with.

it's not worth making my family feel stupid just so i can say i was right. nothing is going to change their political viewpoints anyway.
