can you post a pic of the type of grill you got? i have never had a grill, so i cook my steaks in a pan for a minute or two and then put them in the oven for a few to several minutes depending on thickness and how i want them.what kinds of grills do people use for cooking steaks?
10/18/2013 7:18:00 PM
this is it. charcoal. cooks great.you can lower and raise the the charcoal tray...gives you that slow cook/fast cook option.[Edited on October 18, 2013 at 7:22 PM. Reason : ss]

i thought it would be a charcoal grill, but given the sheer number of people who say they are grillingsteaks, does everybody own a charcoal grill, or do some people use electric grills?Would grills such as the ones below do a decent job of cooking steaks? Anybody have a similar electric grill? I am thinking of buying one, but not if it can't cook a decentmedium-rare steak and chicken breasts fully. Would it be fair to say that they won't be as goodcharcoal grills? But if the difference is small, that's OK. The electric ones are a lot moreconvenient, lot faster in terms of prep and clean up, and you can use them whenever andwherever you want.[Edited on October 18, 2013 at 7:29 PM. Reason : ]

i've only cooked chicken breasts on electric. They cook pretty good on those.I find myself cooking other things, like asparagus, squash, etc same time as my steaks. Only can do that grill.

0EP just buy a Foreman
10/18/2013 7:32:35 PM
look OEPhere in America we use charcoal grills. propane if you're lazy.gtfo of here with that george foreman shit. those are for weirdos who live alone.and no, it won't be some small difference in taste. hell it isn't even a small difference between propane and charcoal...electric shouldn't even be in the conversation.]
10/18/2013 8:12:22 PM
Didn't realize George Foreman is a weirdo who lives alone outside the US. And don't know who the fuck OEP is. You are such a fucking troll... what the hell is your problem with me? You started stalking me and insulting me, I don't know, something like 3 weeks ago. Before that, not a word directed at me, for years. What the fuck has gotten into you? Note getting laid anymore? No job? No income? Got raped? WTF is your problem? Why the fuck did you start this trolling about a month ago? Get the fuck off of me you harasser.^^ Do you have experience cooking steaks on a Foreman? Does it work well?
10/18/2013 8:18:08 PM
They cook chicken pretty well, and steaks aren't bad either...better than pan/oven definitely
10/18/2013 8:21:17 PM
Thanks. What do restaurants use for cooking steaks? Cuz I can't see them using charcoal grills in their kitchens.
10/18/2013 8:22:40 PM
i hope to god you didn't ruin those steaks with any sort of seasoning or salt or heat.
10/18/2013 8:25:22 PM
^ soak them in A1 BOLD & SPICTY. no sauce needed when they come off the girll.

A George Foreman type grill is just not good for steaks. Either cook steaks on something with a real flame (aka a real grill, charcoal or propane) or cook them on a cast iron skillet.

10/18/2013 10:56:14 PM
got these?
10/18/2013 11:36:53 PM
If you pan fry the steak in a nice pan on gas, you can sear it on high then grill it right in there on medium high. cooks the perfect medium rare steaks and tastes similar to broiled in a restaurant.

Broiler.
10/19/2013 2:21:30 AM
Many microwave ovens come with a broiling attachment built inside them.Anybody tried cooking steaks using such a microwave?I need to replace my 25 year old microwave oven, well actually, I don't need to, as it still works fine. But I could buy a new one with a built-in broiler if does steaks nicely.Any experience?
10/19/2013 2:31:46 AM
Yeah, the best way to cook steaks is a microwave.......
10/19/2013 2:49:14 AM
don't be a troll like synapse.you know that's not what i said.
10/19/2013 3:25:15 AM
you implied something awfully dumbdon't get mad at me
10/19/2013 3:39:17 AM
Breaking NEWS:TROLL TRIES TO DIVERT ATTENTION BY CALLING OTHER USER A "TROLL!!!!"In other news, microwave makers are now marketing towards women, children and others not awesome enough to use a grill by including a "broiling attachment."
10/19/2013 3:47:35 AM
^^ what's dumb? using a broiler for cooking steaks is dumb? does it make a difference (in the final product) if the broiler is a stand alone device or if it is inside another appliance such as the microwave? well if it does, tell me that, that's why i asked if people have used such broilers. i didn't say cook using a microwave, don't be dumb, i was obviously talking about broiling using a broiler built-in inside a microwave.

get something to burn charcoal in and do it caveman style. you don't even need a grill, really. you can use a disposable aluminum pan with some holes for air flow set up on some bricks.
10/19/2013 8:09:10 AM
10/19/2013 10:21:31 AM
^^ I'm thinking Cavemen would have probably just used wood though.Don't think Charcoal was used much until people started melting metal.

oh far sideForeman Grill does not get hot enough for steaks. Comes out lookin' like a damn grilled chicken breast
10/20/2013 12:21:16 AM
If you do not have access to a charcoal grill (or propane), cast iron skillet is the way to go. I use the Alton Brown recipe: -Heat oven to 500 degrees, with cast iron skillet inside-When oven comes to temp, take out the cast iron skillet and heat it on a high flame for another couple minutes-Put steak in pan. DO NOT TOUCH for 30 seconds. Flip steak. Cook without moving for another 30 seconds.-Move to 500 degree oven, cook for 2-3 minutes per side.-Let rest for at least 2 minutes. This works best when your meat is room temperature, patted dry, and with salt/pepper. Also, this does not work on an electric stove, the pan will not get sufficiently hot.
10/20/2013 12:59:24 AM
alton brown actually suggests brushing the steak with a little oil. it makes a lot of smoke, but it works well. also, i've done it on an electric stove (the kind with coil burners, not the new flat top style) because that was all i had and it still did fine.

^ ha i was about to link to that one too also there's more cast iron talk here: message_topic.aspx?topic=630320&page=1

so we were talking about two different recipes. one he used the broiler, one he didn't.

10/20/2013 4:31:32 PM
I prefer charcoal...sometimes i lug the cast iron outside but i usually don't. brown's method with cast iron inside is too much smoke for me, and i don't even use the oil.[Edited on October 20, 2013 at 4:39 PM. Reason : but then i don't have a hood to suck the smoke outside...]
