that's a sweet trailer, and I loved the 2001 music, but watching this don't you wonder... what's the motivation of godzilla to go around and break shit? I mean at least in the 98 movie they tried to explain it with some baby story.

Godzilla 98 had terrible filmmakers.

I think they might actually have decent filmmakers working on this one.

I do know that Godzilla looks like he's supposed to and not that retarded design from 98 so its automatically a lot better in my mind

The comment about the filmmakers potentially being decent led me to looking into it. The main two writers and the director really haven't made much. The writer listed second is the only one who's done any recognizable work really. To his credit: Doom (the movie), The Expendables 1, and The Expendables 2... and some other stuff that wasn't really recognizable.

So, I'm not really sure I expect much either way based on the film makers. No reason to think "oh no, they're going to screw this up", but no reason to expect anything amazing either. I will say that based on the teaser alone, I already like it more than the '98 film.

What's with the pseudo 2001: A Space Odyssey music during the jump sequence? I half expected to see Godzilla sharpening his claws on a black monolith or tossing bones in the air (rather than trains).

Sort of curious too just why the {blank} a squad of guys would be sky-diving onto a several hundred foot tall nuclear powered lizard? Godzilla vs. Seal Team 6?

I haven't been to a theater in 5 years and I think this will be the movie that finally gets me back in one.

The jump squad scene looked cool but I too am wondering what the hell they think they are planning.

The one thing that I think that will ruin the movie for me is if they make Godzilla kill-able which i don't think they will do because sequels

Off topic a bit, but my son and I watched King Kong vs. Godzilla on MeTV Saturday night. Given the attraction Kaiju have for commuter trains, and given that Star Trek (the original) was on just prior, I thought that Godzilla 2014 should feature a train full of people wearing "red shirts" all going to a Star Trek convention .

Some observations during the movie:

1. "Godzilla's last reported position." How do you lose a several hundred foot tall fire-breathing lizard and a giant ape?
2. Folk were rather phlegmatic regarding Godzilla's approach: no rushing to the supermarket to get bread and milk (or rice and tea) as though 2" of snow were approaching.
3. What was up with Godzilla tossing a few rocks at the fallen Kong? Seriously, about 30s on "high" burner and we could have had Meal and a Movie .
4. The hapless UN sub skipper who replies "Oh Great!" when told about some calamity or other (water in the engine room I think). Now THIS is why the UN has no business existing.
5. UN News coverage: "Godzilla is destroying Japan. Now, in other news ..." Some things haven't changed since 1962 (MSM pls note).
