Part of the deal is that it can't be super expensive, but still nice. (saving money for baby on the way)

Sitti is a good suggestion.

I'd lean towards Hayes Barton Cafe myself though

Any kind of food that your wife is craving? And what do you consider "super expensive"?

i really like tuscan blu in the old depot...the owner/head chef is actually italian, IIRC, and he comes out to check on folks pretty regularly (though maybe you'd like to avoid that)

i'd second taverna agora...love that place

We really need a budget, because I wouldn't consider some of ^those nice but might depending on budget. I mean, the Rockford is great and I eat there often and enjoy it, but "nice"?

Yeah, without a budget, you never know.

My 5 year wedding anniversary is next week and the restaurant list is down to Bloomsbury Bistro, Café Luna or Irregardless Café

^^i tried to give a variety of "nice" with no budget in mind. the rockford is nicer than applebees!

[Edited on October 3, 2013 at 2:03 PM. Reason : though lots of places are nicer than applebees]

Thank you for all the suggestions... I guess budget would be less than Angus Barn, more than Olive Garden.

Seafood is pretty much out since she is preggers
I'm going to sort through the suggestions made so far!

Is Taverna Agora the place on Glenwood near Pleasant Valley?

My husband and I went on our first date there.

Yes, near Pleasant Valley. It's pretty great. I've taken a couple first dates there.

[Edited on October 3, 2013 at 2:10 PM. Reason : well, not first-first, but after the initial meeting for a couple drinks]

I like Lucky 32 in Cary for celebratory dinners. Very nice, casual atmosphere, and great food. Last time I was there they had a stand set up in front of the restaurant selling produce and some canned goods on the honor system.

Menu changes every few months.

Irregardless is also very cool, with live music every night.

There are some delicious places in this thread. I loved the shrimp crepe at Bida Manda.
