I actually think the phone's sound equalizer kicked in and actually lowered the volume, you can tell right when the video starts that it dips sharply after. I went from one side of the living room to the other and it's not a small room, plus the laptop was not facing my direction (as you can tell). also full disclosure, the vlc player was turned up to 200% but the point remains that it's still clear across the room.
