I saw this making the rounds todayAndOLD

There's a big difference between "dropped" and "fell out of a plane that disintegrated."

i love how instead of talking about how devastating it would have been to north carolina, the article states fallout could have risked lives of people in dc philly and nyc.

I'd like to think we've gotten a little better about shit like this over the years. We all know that's probably not true.
9/21/2013 7:16:49 AM
Nuking NC isn't looking too bad lately.
9/21/2013 7:18:25 AM
I've known about this for at least 15 if not 20 years so yes [VERY OLD]
9/21/2013 8:51:07 AM
Something happened in 1961 and you've known about it for 20 years. You sir, are a legend.

oh cool, the news reporting on something that's been public knowledge for 50 years! and I love the alarmist tone of this latest round of stories." IT ALMOST WENT OFF BECAUSE EVERYTHING ALMOST FAILED" this is part of the reason they have multiple safety switches, so if some fail the bombs don't go off. Shit, you're playing with fire when it comes to nuclear weapons. I'm surprised there hasn't been a major accident. from ^

too bad it didn't go off, we could have blamed it on the Soviets and won the Cold War

Nuclear Mishap is a great way to describe Wayne county.

too bad that it wasn't detonated.Western NC bbq wins

why are flying around north carolina with hydrogen bombs
9/21/2013 1:37:58 PM
9/21/2013 2:13:07 PM
yeah not sure why this is being reported now... I thought this was common knowledge. Can you imagine the effect on the world that would have had if goldsboro was vaporized? Those poor people in DC and NY who would have gotten fallout ( )
9/21/2013 3:20:13 PM
Old news. The funny thing is they never bothered to recover one of the bombs. Still (very unlikely) could blow up.

Yea the fact 3/4 fail safes didn't work is new info. Heh, they probably would've blamed it on Russia and none of us would be here. Also, I'll probably read that dudes book
9/22/2013 12:00:23 AM
too bad it never happenedgoldsboro is a shithole
9/22/2013 12:47:39 AM
This does not bother me. FYI a nuclear explosion has to be started in a certain way. This would have just been a hydrogen explosion if it would have went off.... Aka giant fireball.
9/22/2013 6:43:19 AM
so many things need to go right that have such a high chance of going wrong for a hydrogen bomb to function properly anywayand that "low voltage switch failed to activate" sensationalism is pretty chuckle-worthyThey might as well have said "If the bomb had been struck by lightning on it's descent, there is a small chance it may have detonated"

I wonder what percentage of tdubbers wouldn't exist had this thing detonated in '61.
9/22/2013 10:23:39 AM
Man this is so incredibly old. Nothing new was found out in this "new" document.I liked it better when less people knew about it. That when when I told people that a nuclear bomb fell 10 minutes from where I grew up, it was a cool story no one had ever heard about.
9/22/2013 11:17:33 AM
don't be a hydrogen bomb hipster
9/22/2013 11:22:10 AM
I like how fools are STILL trying to roll into this thread talking about how old it is. NO SHIT SHIRLOCK!. It happened in 196fucking1.
9/22/2013 11:31:24 AM
My parents said it was widely reported when it happened.

9/23/2013 9:04:24 PM
Yeah that was long time ago.
9/23/2013 9:17:06 PM
Didnt this happen in the previous century?
