Can you tell that I was wearing safety glasses and a dust mask?
Maybe 50% effective.

I'm thinking you should be asking your boss about a better mask. Small particulate matter is no joke; It's been linked to all kinds of nasty health shit. No harm in asking. If you don't want to be "that safety complainer guy," then I recommend telling your boss you will look into it, develop a training/report back with more info (my experience is that bosses love pawning off extra safety responsibilities and will reward accordingly)

but props for getting dirty at work. As someone that has to split his work wardrobe into "office" and "field" I hope that wasn't an "office" polo.

We have some fine particulate masks. This is not as dirty as I have been doing different jobs here.
I was actually wearing a better one, but an employee wasn't wearing one at all. I gave him mine and went and got a crappy one that was readily available. Nothing in our plant requires PPE, and some people wear nuisance masks for allergies.
I am one of two people responsible for PPE type stuff at our facility.

This is an "office" polo. For "field" work, I wear crappy t-shirts. For the office I wear these polos that I don't care if they get damaged/stained/torn/worn out. For visiting customer/clients I wear nice polos or button downs.

I'm the Quality Manager normally, but I also pull double duty as an evening supervisor when needed.
