As we know we have seen the statewide Voter ID bill pass (aka the voter suppression bill) and become law. Now it appears there is a coordinated effort to bring it to the county level as well. County BOE's were received newly appointed members by the GOP run state government. That comes up in this Rachel Maddow clip:http://video.msnbc.msn.com/rachel-maddow/52769481#52769481By now we have all seen what has occurred in Watauga County and with Montravias King down in Pasquotank County. Well it is now coming to light that the Civitas Institute may be heavily involved (Pope's conservative think tank) also. Their "elections analyst" Susan Myrick was present at King's residency hearing, and her name is reported to be on the Watauga County Board of Elections phone logs shortly before their recent decision to move voting off of ASU's campus and to squeeze 3 precincts into one voting site. Something isn't passing the sniff test here.

You lost your credibility when you mentioned Rachel Maddow. He's just as bad as Rush.I have yet to see a compelling argument that proves voter ID laws actually disenfranchise people.
8/23/2013 5:53:16 PM
^ This is extending well beyond ID, and if you can point out her inaccuracies in this piece please correct them here.
8/23/2013 6:02:57 PM
Fact: Squeezing 9300 votes into one site, with limited access and 35 parking spaces saves 0 money.Fact: NC regulations suggest precincts have a capacity of 1500. Someone on the right please tell me how the move here at ASU is anything other than blatant student voting suppression.

Early voting started yesterday here in Charlotte for municipal elections and the local news has reported on at least 19 cases of documented voter suppression so far. And that's just in two days! Just think about how many more people are going to be suppressed against when Voter ID actually goes into effect.
8/23/2013 10:23:47 PM
If you can't find the time to get a free ID in the three years you have before voter ID legislation goes into effect...well, you're probably too lazy to vote in the first place

is there anyone who is more of a caricature than rjrumfel?I mean he's firing on all cylinders[Edited on August 24, 2013 at 2:51 AM. Reason : and he seems to be proud]

^^ Again ID is only the tip of the iceberg here. It is everything else in that bill and the actions of county BOE's the becomes the real problem.

8/24/2013 9:47:47 AM
Premise: There are documented cases of newly appointed, Republican Boards of Election systematically making it more difficult for students to vote, a move that saves zero money. Response from the Right: But you need an ID to buy Sudafed!!!1

Caricature? Sure, call me that. I'm a lot more moderate than a good many of the conservatives out there. And I didn't disagree with the entire OP, I just want someone to tell me how ID"s disenfranchise people. If you can make a caricature of the Republican party out of me for that question, then that is your right. But its pretty retarded. Maybe I'm just being trolled.

^^ I mean, you obviously didn't watch the video, commented on it, and then called a homosexual female "he".just sayin'
8/24/2013 7:34:21 PM
I work with a homosexual female that has been going through reassignment for years now. Who' to say she hasn't?And Jesus Christ what is it with you people and double standards? Its like you can insult people you don't agree with untill the cows come home, but when somebody makes an obvious joke/troll remark about somebody you share your views with, then they're being a caricature? Or am I just being plain bigoted?

OH GOD THOSE EVIL POPE BROTHERS!!! OH GOD THEY'RE SO FUCKING EVIL!!!!
8/25/2013 2:22:31 PM
this whole thing is such a great example of fake outrage on both sides.#1. there aint that much voter fraud. this is essentially killing a fly with a hand grenade.#2 it aint that fucking hard to show ID where you vote. it makes a lot of logical sense.#3 it also aint that hard to vote in the precinct where you have residency and to actually take the time when you turn 18 to register, ahead of time, like the vast majority of us do. its called INITIATIVE. spare me the bullshit from both sides.
8/29/2013 4:32:38 PM
There's more to it than that. Look harder.
8/29/2013 4:38:01 PM
^^ no, this is not fake outrage. this is actual outrage over some actually scary shit.

9300 voters crammed into one precinct in an out of the way location with all of 35 parking spaces. Yep, nothing harder to vote about that.....
8/29/2013 9:12:06 PM
For what it's worth, it looks like there is an active effort by the NC NAACP to raise awareness about voter identification and get out the vote around upcoming elections. After the Moral Mondays rallies at the legislature, and some big regional ones in various areas around the state, there was a day of simultaneous gatherings all across the state in each congressional district yesterday. Here are a few pictures I saw online of a few of the rallies timed for the March on Washington 50th anniversary:Wilmington:Lincolnton:Elizabeth City:Sylva:

http://www.meetup.com/wesurroundthem/events/136618872/A meetup group for a "voter integrity boot camp." My question is: if somebody challenges your vote, what exactly happens? Does the ballot just become provisional. What recourse do you have? Pretty sure they would just get a "fuck off" from me.For some good laughs take a look at the "real Americans" attending this event

We already know some County BOEs have done some questionable stuff. The state BOE has waffled on all of it. This is setting up voting to be a huge cluster fuck. These laws were passed to increase confidence in our voting system. I've got to say my confidence in it has never been lower.
8/30/2013 8:42:17 PM
Can someone challenge my voter eligibility when I vote absentee?
8/30/2013 8:56:55 PM
I think today was the last day 16 and 17 year olds could pre-register to vote, since the new law put a ban on it. I believe McCrory was asked how that provision would improve voter confidence, and his response was basically that he didn't know that was a part of what he was signing.
8/30/2013 9:33:26 PM
^^I know some Rethugs in Ohio have done just that, rifling through records of registered voters and second-guessing the decisions of county boards of electons; you should get a notice when your eligibility has been challenged, usually long before you'd actually get to vote absentee.

9/2/2013 1:27:26 PM
so can the GOP just hire a person in each precinct to challenge people's votes?
9/3/2013 11:02:40 AM
pretty sure they can challenge statewide, not just in their own precint
9/3/2013 11:16:54 AM
Yeah that's what I mean. I guess they could have done that before. I'm not seeing their intention behind this change.
9/3/2013 11:31:16 AM
They could not have done that beforeSupplanter posted the summary above:
9/3/2013 11:44:19 AM
I mean they could have hired within the precinct vs. statewide. I guess this just makes it a little easier. I didn't hear about anyone getting challenged before this expansion, though.
9/3/2013 12:01:20 PM
the rachel maddow video at the top actually has some footage from inside a challenge

^ There's your proof that state board of elections executive director Kim Strach is bought and paid for and COMPLICIT in this statewide effort. It is funny that the chairman of the State Board, Josh Howard, a Republican, said the following to all county board members at training a few weeks ago:

once again the federal government is overreaching it's jurisdiction. our population has a right to make local decisions that affect our location such as how we make sure the right people are voting.
