Is fucking impossible, that is all
8/15/2013 5:19:56 PM
I used to beat it when I was like 15 years oldI also completed Super Mario Bros 3
8/15/2013 5:22:18 PM
im sorry, but that game is fucking hard as shit
8/15/2013 5:27:25 PM
obligatory The Wizard reference
8/15/2013 5:28:01 PM
Its not as hard as Call of Duty I'm Krallum and I approved this message.
8/15/2013 5:42:58 PM
with the warp whistles that game can easily be beaten in under 15-20 min.
8/15/2013 5:44:57 PM
you're right, it's impossible, no one has ever beaten it
8/15/2013 5:46:43 PM
me and my buddy in high school played all the way through, no cheating, and beat the whole thing. i've tried a few times, but have only accomplished it once.
8/15/2013 5:46:54 PM
It's not impossible, you've just been spoiled by quick saves and easy games. It's not like I could beat it on my first go around now (I've been spoiled too) but back when I was like 9 yrs old and I got like 2 video games a year I beat that shit because it's all I had to play. And it's not like SMB3 was one of the harder games of that generation -- play some Megaman 2 or Metroid sometime and you'll see how hard it can get.
8/15/2013 5:54:59 PM
The only time I beat Metroid I was using some crazy Game Genie cheats, and it was still hard as a mug
8/15/2013 6:58:21 PM
not maddeningly hard, but you have to set a whole damn day aside if you want to have time to play it from beginning to end. it should've had a save feature for that reason.
8/15/2013 7:19:22 PM
My ideal weekend would be a rainy couple of days stuck inside playing SMB3 and drinking.
8/15/2013 7:53:08 PM
You want to talk about hard? Where are my Kid Icarus peeps at?
8/15/2013 7:57:43 PM
Haha, god damn that fucking game. The wizards that turn you into an eggplant.
8/15/2013 8:14:36 PM
Kid Icarus had that dope ass soundtrack
8/15/2013 8:15:25 PM
I broke at least 3 controllers over Kid Icarus[Edited on August 15, 2013 at 8:21 PM. Reason : a]
8/15/2013 8:19:00 PM
^lies, you can't break an NES controller
8/15/2013 8:25:29 PM
man fuck kid icarus
8/15/2013 8:32:28 PM
8/15/2013 8:39:45 PM
I beat Kid Icarus...it gets pretty easy once you increase your health bar and arrows and stuff...though yeah, fuck the eggplant monsters and having to find a hospital
8/15/2013 8:41:04 PM
The only game I ever beat was Contra by using the cheat code. It did help build my self-confidence.
8/15/2013 8:46:35 PM
up, down, up, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, start
8/15/2013 8:49:12 PM

8/15/2013 9:07:17 PM
apparently all of these codes workhttp://www.gamewinners.com/nes/Contra.htm
8/15/2013 9:15:26 PM
Did anyone beat Super Mario Bros 2, aka Doki Doki Panic?I could never find my way through until I used the Game Genie invincibility cheat.
8/15/2013 9:16:42 PM
^^^i think i'd do 'B A B'...and of course select, because that was to change it from one player to two playersbut as long as you did the first 'B A' it didnt matter what you did afterwards
8/15/2013 9:23:12 PM
^^yea, tough game, fuck that frog king bomb spitting dude
8/15/2013 9:38:01 PM
I never beat 2, or 3, but I did beat the first one and Super Mario World which is the easiest game ever.
8/15/2013 9:40:04 PM
I def beat all 3 SMB on the NES back in the day. 1 was way simple. 3 was also pretty easy. 2 was the hardest and strangest and also took the longest to beat...but i did it.i could beat the first one in about 15min. 3rd one in about 30min
8/15/2013 10:10:08 PM
I could never get all of the way through dark land.
8/15/2013 10:11:27 PM
i have to throw solomon's key out there as the toughest NES game. nothing else i played even came close, although battletoads was a tough one, too. the thing about solomon's key is that you could paint yourself into corners and be forced to start over without really dying.mario 3 is child's play compared to these other games. SO TUFFi have indeed beaten mario 2. actually, one of my earlier memories as a kid was going over to a babysitter's house while my parents went out for the evening. me and my brother sat in the living room and watched our teenage, female babysitter beat that game straight through like it was the easiest thing ever. when she beat it, it showed her character selections. she beat the entire game using only the princess. i don't know why that stands out in my memory...but i was a LITTLE kid.[Edited on August 15, 2013 at 10:22 PM. smb3 was fairly easy, especially considering you could get a hundred lives in world 1-2. smb2 was way harder, but did eventually beat it.
8/15/2013 10:52:24 PM
None of the NES Super Mario games are that hard. Ok, I'll give you World 8 of SMB 1, but that's more due to platformers being new at the time. SMB2 is the only game my mom ever beat. The final boss is a joke if you jump behind him with Luigi or the Princess. Mario 3 has some tough levels, but I beat it a few years ago without much trouble.Hard NES games:Battletoads (winner by far)Double Dragon III (fuck that game, seriously)Zelda IIMega Man (the first one, even on difficult Mega Man 2 isn't that bad)Ghost n GoblinsTMNT
8/15/2013 11:05:52 PM
Ghost n Goblins is pretty tough if you don't cheat
8/15/2013 11:12:43 PM
Did anyone else get a free copy of Dragon Warrior when their parents signed them up for Nintendo Power? I got that game when I was about 10, or 11 and finally beat it when I was about 21. That game takes forever.
8/15/2013 11:25:11 PM
ghouls and ghosts
8/15/2013 11:28:32 PM
What do you guys know about Snake Rattle n Roll? Best NES music, but a fuckin impossible game to beat. It's the only NES game I owned, but never beat.Contra, SuperC, Bionic Commando, TMNT2 were some of my favorite tougher games, but I was able to consistently beat them all. SuperC was my jam, and learned how to beat that game without getting hit once. I thought I was hot shit until I saw people do speed runs on YouTube that made me feel like a sorry noob.
8/16/2013 12:39:27 AM
Mario 3 is deffo doable, but indeed, unlike today's games, you'll need to actually work to farm those lives so you can make it through the end; I found World 3 to be especially difficult, so I would always use a Warp Whistle to bypass it.Mario World only seems like "the easiest game ever" because it was the first Mario game with a save feature; New Super Mario Bros. is much easier, with its quicksaves and wall-jumping...Also I second JLCayton about Solomon's Key; it's hard to even make a tool-assisted speedrun for: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=271469&sid=20580c306fac5f881b1777fb7bf115bf#271469N.B.: That was, by many months, the final TAS that had been recorded on the Famtasia emulator and had not been obsoleted, even though the community had many years earlier moved on to FCE Ultra (and later its fork FCEUX, and almost a year and a half ago, the BizHawk multi-emulator system, which is much slower on most systems but is cycle-accurate).
8/16/2013 1:14:51 AM
I bought an old used wii just to download some old nes games for nostalgia value. I have been playing the hell out of SM3 and I just cant win. I mean I suck, but got damn that game is tough. I cant beat world 3, water world.
8/16/2013 5:32:48 AM
Beat ninja gaiden II then tell me about hardbut yeah, something as involved as SMB3 needed some good checkpoints. Or at least sub-par checkpoints.
8/16/2013 6:31:59 AM
Uh Oh its the Battleship levelsMario whats up with dem red feathersGame was beast mode back in the day son. Ice world was a bitch though

Wow, I always thought that part 3 was the easiest one of the NES trilogy but you could make part 3 a bit harder by never using p-wings.SMB1 was the only one I never beat. It always came down to a roll of the dice for me running under bowser at the end so I never put much effort into it.
