Is it just me or is Blurred Lines a really crappy song to be "song of the summer"

All the "songs of the summer" last year were at least enjoyable in some way, or at least catchy in a way that didn't make you want to blow your brains out (Call me maybe, Gangnam style, Somebody I used to know).

Only good thing about blurred lines is the tits in the video.

It's not just you; Blurred lines is a terrible song. Also, I think it's hilarious that it is being heralded as the 'song of the summer' when it was released within 1 week of winter ending this year. if the video didn't have emily ratajkowski in it, no one would care about that song at all.

standard "songs of the summer" get overplayed so much it drives you to hate the song eventually.

Just about everytime I go to lunch with this one co-worker we hear Blurred Lines twice. Once on the way to lunch and once on the way back. Same radio station. Same song twice within an hour.

No offense, but that's pretty stupid. It's obviously catchy to lots of people who haven't gazed upon emily ratakwakjpajshowaskkkki's boobies.

also a little history:
Quote :
"In the United States the song debuted at number 94 on the Billboard Hot 100,[23] the following week the song rose to number 89, then to number 70, then to number 54.[24] The single's progress appeared to stabilize in middle of the U.S. charts when, in mid-May, Robin Thicke and Pharrell performed it live on NBC’s The Voice. Immediately afterwards the song flew up to number 12 on the Hot 100.[25] Not long thereafter it peaked at number one"

That's pretty standard course for pop songs rising up the charts so it's not surprising it rose that way. I'm not sure why you posted the date though - March 26 is exactly 1 week after Winter.

I just think the song is extremely repetitive and offers nothing good enough to catapault it to the top of the charts if it wasn't getting press for controversy and the video. Obviously my "no one would care" was a hyperbole, but I don't think it wouldn't have near the success it did if it wasn't for the music video and subsequent media exposure. It's a weak song that benefited from lots of press.

In fact that video is the only way I even know the song exists

It's not like it balled out from the start. It wasn't #1 until a month from the start of summer.

I don't want to judge you, but I don't take you as a big consumer of pop music. Do you rock 105.1 in your car that often?

Oh I shoulda just waited for you to answer my question I was about to ask

btw the SFW version of the video has 142 million views.

Call Me Maybe, yeah

those other two make Blurred Lines sound like God Only Knows

Blurred Lines is fine for a summer pop song. nothing remarkable, either way.

yeah I consume a lot of music but modern pop is certainly not way up on my list of genres I enjoy - so no doubt I am not the target audience. Truthfully, I don't know much about him as this is the only song I've heard from him ever, but that song reminded me of a weaker Justin Timberlake when I heard it.

In reality it doesn't matter much either way since it's not like I ever have to listen to the song or anything.

The video was bearable tho

"Blurred Lines" does not sound like a ripoff of "Got to Give It Up"

This is like the controversy over "Setting Sun" vs. "Tomorrow Never Knows" all over again

^^ yes, call me maybe was terrible and I've never heard gangnam style (though I can only imagine from the video stills I've seen).

I thought Somebody That I Used to Know was a legitimately good song. Not great but catchy and I liked the vibe. It got way overplayed but I actually enjoyed it. However, it is also from 2 years ago, not last summer.

I don't know if I like Blurred Lines because it's a catchy tune (I do like TI and Pharrel)...or because every time I hear it I see that little brunette's tits bouncing up and down.

Call Me Maybe is an incredible pop song. The rest can bite it. Robin Thicke can't sing. Pharrell should've given the song to JT like he originally planned.

that makes a lot of sense. Like I said, I don't think I've ever heard any of his other songs, but all I could think when I heard this song was how it sounded like he wanted to be JT.
