There's only one late night show I watch, and rarely at that, but this is it.

i would watch this, but if i'm awake at 12:30 i'm watching the late late show with craig ferguson, because it's funnier.

there is no doubt that jimmy fallon is much more in his element as a late night host than as an SNL cast member.

^you'll be able to watch the next day at 7pm, much like the Daily Show, later this month when the Esquire Network launches.

I don't think I've ever watched it whenever it comes on. I've got one of those newfangled devices called a DVR

^^ Do you have any good Ferguson videos you wanna post?

his written bits are great, especially in the Youtube era

but holy mother of fuck is he an awful interviewer. he's the anti-Letterman. no matter how bad/boring the guest/whatever their promoting is, he'll find a way to kiss their ass AND love whatever they're promoting

super interested to see what Seth Myers does with the franchise, because it's in need of a makeover

[Edited on August 1, 2013 at 5:07 PM. Reason : he does get a lot of credit for hiring AD Miles as his head writer, though]

Yeah this is how I feel.

If I'm ever up at that time and watching these shows I'll watch Fallon until the guests come out then switch to Ferguson.

Also I feel like Kimmel has been pretty strong lately. I've always hated Leno and Letterman's schtick is getting a little old for me.

Fallon is best watched on YouTube the next day. Written bits and highlights of the guests/roots involvement.

Fallon for the bits, Ferguson for the interviews

Letterman still books musical acts consistently well, but Fallon has the best booker

Summer Camp and Joking Bad were "meh"...but of Fallon's stuff is pretty gold.

Seeing all of this, I'm just going to assume that he's made his show half-skit/half-late night show? Pretty much drawing on his SNL skills to make his show different?

Pretty much. And if he's not doing skits he's doing games with the celebrities and/or audience members.

He's so bad at interviewing, he's basically given up on it. That's made his show better.

Over on Ferguson, they've given up on scripted bits almost entirely. The monologue, cold open, and tweet/email segments are mostly improvised, the interviews almost always ignore whatever the guest is booked to promote, and musical guests are rare. It's glorious.

that's the impression I've always got, it's like he has no writers

(and my comment was about johnny carson, not carson daly)

^Wow, I admire him even more after that interview. Hard to find a fault in the guy to me. I mean, except for breaking so much on SNL. But it just shows he's a really happy guy.

i didn't watch that skit, but befor they were "the Avett Bros" they were in a band called Nemo (I think) that was supposedly a lot heavier. I looked for some one time but couldn't find it.
