https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1tOeW8AcSACheap and good. Anyone got their hands on it?

I thought about ordering one, but if it has less features than that POS Google TV box I have, not interested. I want to see if everyone likes it that ordered first.
7/29/2013 11:13:30 AM
It's not bad considering I paid 35 and get 3 months of Netflix. Without the promotion I would have to weigh the cost to just more or less free up my PS3 as living room netflix machine.I've cast some youtube stuff that works great, but dragging an mkv into chrome tab produced no audio and as expected was somewhat laggy. If they can get more support it looks like an interesting buy, but right now I dunno I'd spend 15 or 20 more for a Roku or 65 more on an AppleTV.
7/29/2013 11:24:48 AM
Dude rooted the device. http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/07/chromecast-rooted-already/ looks promising.
7/29/2013 11:33:57 AM
Want one but impossible to find.
7/29/2013 1:09:02 PM
Debating if I should get a Roku 3 or one of these. I just dropped cable and am ready to pick up a streaming device. I should probably read up on it a bit more, because I don't know if Chromecast can stream Amazon Video or Hulu based on that video.
7/29/2013 1:31:02 PM
It's only integrated with Netflix, Youtube, Google Music, and Google Movies right now. You can cast a tab in chrome, but I haven't tested it yet.

http://gigaom.com/2013/07/29/chromecast-vimeo-redbox-instant-plex/Looks more and more promising. Everyones jumping aboard.

Hoping the new Sunday Ticket package for non-directTV customers (from Madden 25) can work with this....
7/30/2013 7:17:49 PM
I want it to be able to just cast the video from my monitor to the TV so I can play PC games without moving my PC and stringing a long-ass HDMI cable to it.
7/30/2013 8:18:59 PM
I watched the presentation, had the order screen loaded later, but forgot until the next day. Ended up ordering the morning of the 25th (yay, I'll get the Netflix coupon!) from Amazon but they're OOS still ... guess I'll get one eventually.
7/31/2013 9:26:02 AM
^^I'm pretty sure lag over wifi would be pretty bad.
7/31/2013 11:31:08 AM
I was able to nab one from Bestbuy.com a few days ago and still got the netflix promotion. Just got an email saying it shipped.
7/31/2013 2:47:59 PM
i ordered one from amazon on the 25th and got an email yesterday from them stating that my order was eligible for free netflix and that my code would be coming within 5 days of shipping. it should be here tomorrow.
7/31/2013 3:25:35 PM
Be sure if you use GMail to check your promotional tab. I received the 5 day email and the code within minutes of each other, but on the promo tab.Ordered 7/24

Managed to get one today. So far pretty cool. Got the chrome extension to push from browser to it and been messing around watching things on twitch. Works very easy and had sound and all on the tv. For $35 pretty easy decision to buy with how easy it is to use and set up.
8/1/2013 2:28:22 PM
Any word on if it is a pain to have 2 or 3 of them in a single household?
8/1/2013 2:37:59 PM
You name them when you set them up so I don't see why having multiple would be an issue.
8/1/2013 2:44:37 PM
Just order. Now waiting game.
8/1/2013 2:50:11 PM
Yeah there's a confirmation code when you set one up and if you click the cast button I'd imagine instead of My Computer and Chromecast1 you'd have each of your devices listed.
8/1/2013 3:04:29 PM
if i cast something from my browser and then start using other tabs or applications, the tv still just shows the one tab you started casting from, right?
8/1/2013 7:29:31 PM
My understanding is that you can continue to use your computer (meaning that the streaming window does not need to be the active window). But I haven't seen anything explicitly saying that what you're describing will work from an actual person (as opposed to someone who tested it for 15 minutes for an article). Perhaps, at worst, you'd have to launch a different browser. But I'm fairly certain you switch to a different tab within Chrome. This guy seemed to do a pretty thorough test using several mobile devices, an older TV and a new tv, and both a windows laptop and a macbook:http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324809004578637922888475686.html
8/1/2013 11:23:49 PM
^^ correct. Will post more tomorrow as I have more time to mess with it. Nothing groundbreaking, but easy to use and cheap, and I think has a lot of potential as more companies get on board and people figure out all it is capable of doing.
8/1/2013 11:40:29 PM
yeah the casted tab remains independent of what you do with other things.
8/2/2013 8:58:10 AM
Bought one last night
8/2/2013 2:51:14 PM
Bought one the other day, got the delivery estimate yesterday. August 21st.
8/4/2013 7:05:30 PM
I was able to order one from Bestbuy.com a week or so ago when they went back in stock (and gave me the netflix promo). Its supposed to arrive today in the mail. I'll play with it tonight and give a quick review when I get it.
8/5/2013 2:40:36 PM
I just picked one up today. Setup was easy. It played youtube and netflix videos from various devices without any major problems. Great little device. Every tv should have one.
8/8/2013 2:09:32 AM
Please post up if you see them in any local store.... Amazon order just got delayed from August delivery to October now.
8/8/2013 9:51:23 AM
It's 2013. This type of simple tech should be built into TV's by now.
8/8/2013 9:56:42 AM
^^ Ditto on the Amazon delay.
8/8/2013 9:59:59 AM
The Best Buy in GV said they were getting a new shipment in today sans netflix promo of course.
8/8/2013 10:11:44 AM
Yup, my Amazon purchase is delayed until the last week of October... whoa....But I get the 3 months of Netflix, so that's ok.[Edited on August 8, 2013 at 11:08 AM. Reason : .]

8/8/2013 1:28:25 PM
Well right after I had posted it, I asked my roommate if he was near there and would have tried to get a couple but alas useless.
8/8/2013 3:01:21 PM
I ordered from Best Buy as well just to see which arrives first.
8/8/2013 6:29:47 PM

I've had my chromecast for about a week. I really like it. It streams really well, bascially no buffer time. The one draw back is while using the computer to stream. If you use the computer, you have to keep it open. When I closed the lid and put my computer to sleep, it cuts off. My remedy for that has been using my Nexus 7 (you can put it to sleep and it will keep playing fine). For some reason the netflix on my bionic doesnt have the cast button.Overall very happy.
8/9/2013 9:47:31 PM
I'm enjoying mine. I had some people over and it was pretty fun with everyone being able to queue up music videos from their phone. Not to be impatient, but I'd really like to see more app support like Spotify, Songza, HBO Go, Showtime Anywhere, etc. Wonder if Google mailed out dev kits early or if it will be a while before more companies add support...

8/10/2013 11:49:29 AM
^^ I read an article the other day where someone had found some HBO GO related files on their chromecast. Suggesting that they had already been working on it before release.I do think it may have been a somewhat premature release. But maybe they wanted to get buzz going to get these third party developers rolling faster than they were with it on the shelf.
8/10/2013 12:26:09 PM
i haven't used mine in a few days, but i don't recall there being auto-advance on the netflix player. that's a dealbreaker cus most of the time when i watch tv it's when i'm going to sleep and i HATE having to get out of bed every 23 minutes to advance to the next episode. much like smart tv software, apple tv or google tv, i'm also guessing the software updates for each app will come at about a 10x slower pace than the normal web apps. i'm pretty sure i'll end up reverting back to just plugging in a regular htpc and using vnc or a mini wifi keyboard/touchpad i have[Edited on August 10, 2013 at 12:35 PM. 8/10/2013 12:34:39 PM
Not auto advancing was my roommate's biggest gripe with this as well. It really is a deal breaker for using it in that manner.
