Anyone have or remember this system?

First of the 16 bit era systems to come out. Release date in North America was late 1989. Designed by Hudsun Soft, and marketed by NEC. It really never took off here in the US, instead it was beat hands down by the Sega Genesis and the Super Nintendo.

First system to have a cd add on, with the Turbografx CD in 1990. This add on was later bundled into one system, the TurboDuo in 1992.

Anyone have any games, magazines, or the system?

I remember it and one of my friends had it. All I remember is that the games were little cards instead of cartridges, kind of like the card games for the Sega Master System.

I can't really remember why it failed, just that it did. In the end it just couldn't compete with the Genesis and SNES. I transitioned from a SMS to a Genesis myself.

I have a few magazines with ads for the system.

That's about the extent of my involvement with it, though.

Magic Engine is a good PC Engine emulator. Make sure you download the cracked version though, because the shareware version only allows you to play 5 minutes at a time...

Don't really have a favorite game. Toilet Kids is the only memorable one because it's a top-down shooter about a kid falling into a toilet and shooting at turds.

Had one really liked it. The bonk games were great. Blazing lazers as well.

I own one. Games for it are generally pretty awesome, the controllers are decent. but it is one of the ugliest and weirdest hardware designs of any console ever made.

epic misnomer, like it only has an 8-bit CPU

(though the GPU is 16-bit)

It failed for several different reasons. Not enough market saturation, niche product, NEC ultimately decided to nickle and dime the NA market to death with necessary add-ons that most systems provided for free (2 controller ports on most systems vs 1 in the tg16, save batteries built into games vs having to buy a turbobooster or use ungodly long passwords), and lets not forget Nintendo's (NES) reign over all 3rd party publishers that severely limited what games could be produced for the TG-16.

Magic Engine is supposed to be the best emulator as "apg319" pointed out. Did not know there was a cracked version. I ended up using ootake since it was free and is pretty easy to use.

If anyone has anything they want to get rid of pm me. I'm always looking for more Turbografx-16 stuff for my collection.
