Diesel version of the GTI with 40+ mpg and slightly slower performance...seems neathttp://jalopnik.com/2014-volkwagen-golf-gtd-the-40-mpg-diesel-hot-hatch-o-660300193

there is already a diesel gtiwhat's different?http://www.vw.com/en/models/golf/trims-specs.s9_trimlevel_detail.suffix.html/2013-golf~2FTDI-4-Door-with-Technology-Package.html ]

that is actually just a diesel golf ie: TDI. The GTI is the gas performance version of a golf...the GDI is/will be the performance/sport version of the TDI. Ya feel me? meaning nicer interior, increased ponies, sportier suspension, not half as "docile" looking...

^^ derp alert[Edited on July 11, 2013 at 11:15 AM. Reason : did you even read the article he posted?]

Ahaha he thinks gti and golf are synonymous
7/11/2013 12:01:28 PM
to be honest... i know the difference but i don't think its something to mock him about. If you're thaaat into the golf/rabbit/gti lineup to be splitting hares (bah dump tish) over it i think that's more sad than not giving a fuck about the vw naming convention.

the TDI already has the GTI suspensionhttp://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36871so apparently there are some differences between the TDI/GTI suspensions but the TDI is lower and stiffer than the regular golf.[Edited on July 11, 2013 at 2:18 PM. Reason : d]

^^The hell dude? Thats like saying if someone were to post about a diesel M5 coming out, and another poster says "there is already a diesel m5" when what he really means is "there is already a diesel 5 series". And you would be telling us to leave him alone because he doesnt give a fuck about bmw naming conventions? It is not splitting hairs... there is a night and day difference between a base model and the special high performance model within the same lineup.

A golf by any other name. IS STILL A GOLF.Is it a front wheel drive egg.Put some new dampers on it springs and a couple more hp it's still a golf.A gt500 is still a mustang, so is the boss... It's a specification change not a new car.
7/11/2013 3:46:40 PM
So if you drive a GTI and someone asks what kind of car you drive, you say a Golf?
7/11/2013 4:05:35 PM
yeah, I'm stupid, I forgot the vw hatch just slightly above average econobox was COMPLETELY different than the slightly less just above average econobox vw hatch 95+% of the components are shared.
7/11/2013 4:08:25 PM
So what's your argument here? It's pointless for them to release the GTD because they already have the TDI?
7/11/2013 4:25:11 PM
7/11/2013 4:55:38 PM
well I legitimately didn't know the difference and now having found out, yes, I see no reason to release different cars that are functionally equivalent.

Well I thought it was cool and all. It really reminds me of an old vw diesel my gma used to have that I learned to drive stick on. I would imagine the motor would be good for a shitton of miles, have a decently high resale value, be fun as hell to drive, as well as economical to boot...yes, it is still an "egg" but it really isn't a bad looking egg, gimme awd like the golf r and it'd be perfect, well that and put it at around 25k...lol doubt it
7/11/2013 11:59:00 PM
Why did I get dragged into this? ^Good luck buying one for under $30k (maybe a stripper).
7/12/2013 8:13:20 AM
not sure I want to buy a stripper that has room for 4, german, and/or runs off of diesel...
