don't you need a CDL or whatever license for one of those?

Not needed for the smaller, truck/van based, <10k lbs

^ This. If it doesn't have air brakes you're probably ok with a standard drivers license. That was the distinction on the box trucks I used to drive at least.[Edited on July 10, 2013 at 3:00 PM. Reason : l]

http://changingears.com/rv-sec-state-rv-license.shtmli don't think air brakes has anything to do with it. you're not likely to need a commercial driver's license for any non-commercial vehicle. NC requires a class A or B non-commericial if the GVWR is over 26k.

It basically comes down to axles and weight. The box truck-based RVs don't require a CDL, but the bus-type ones usually do.

It's pretty expensive. I've been trying to do it for the August time frame and can't find anything less than $129/day with crazy mileage restriction. Smaller RV dealers seem to have a few better deals on craigslist.
