Too many things to talk about and free agency starts Friday.

Lololol at the Flyers and their constant fight against basic arithmetic. Great signing of Lecavalier yesterday. 5 years/4.5 mil with a full No Movement Clause. Puts them back over the cap until they can put Pronger back on the LTIR and they're going to be relying on Steve freaking Mason as their starter next year. Hilarious.

The biggest question of the offseason is obviously which "Division D" team will Chad LaRose sign with so that he can play against the Canes as much as possible.

Yotes staying put:

Quote :
"GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Phoenix Coyotes took a big step toward stability Tuesday night when the Glendale City Council ratified an arena lease agreement with a prospective owner of the franchise.

After making a few alterations, the council voted 4-3 in favour on a 15-year, US$225 million lease agreement with Renaissance Sports & Entertainment during a special session.

The vote clears the way for RSE to purchase the Coyotes from the NHL, which has been running the team the past four years.
The paperwork from Tuesday night has to be signed and completed by July 8th and RSE has to close the deal by August 5th. The team is now expected to be rebranded the Arizona Coyotes. "

Saw this on Reddit and LOL'd:

Quote :
"Bettman: The name's Bettman. Gary Bettman. And I come before you good people tonight with an idea. Probably the greatest... Aw, it's not for you. It's more of a Seattle idea.

Now wait just a minute! We're twice as smart as the people of Seattle! Just tell us your idea and we'll vote for it!

Bettman: All right, I tell you what I'll do. I'll show you my idea! I give you the Phoenix Coyotes! I've sold teams to Atlanta, Quebec City, and Hartford, and by gum, it put them on the map!

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth Like a genuine, Bona fide, Icified, 20 man, NHL Team!

...

What'd I say?

NHL Team!

What's it called?

NHL Team!

That's right! NHL Team!

(crowd chants "NHL Team" softly and rhythmically)

I hear those things don't draw crowds.

Bettman: Tickets will sell and you'll be wowed.

Is there a chance the ice could melt?

Bettman: Not on your life, my Canadian friend.

What about us cheap deadbeats?

Bettman: You'll all be given cushy seats.

Were you sent here by the devil?

Bettman: No, good sir, I'm on the level.

Glenn Healy: The ring came off my pudding can.

Bettman: Take my pen knife, my good man.

I swear it's Glendale's only choice...

Throw up your hands and raise your voice!

All: NHL Team!

Bettman: What's it called?

All: NHL Team!

Bettman: Once again...

All: NHL Team!

Mayor Weiers: But Main Street's still all cracked and broken!

Councilman Martinez: Sorry, Mayor, the mob has spoken.

All: NHL Team!

NHL Team!

NHL Team!

NHL Team!"

So is it safe to say that the Devils' best player next year will be their backup goalie?

At least it gets us out of that ridiculous contract into perpetuity. Unless I am mistaken and he still gets paid even in retirement. Personally, I think it's a good move because it allows the Devils to get back to becoming team oriented.

This hopefully works, but it expresses my thoughts exactly. It's a great way for Lou to dump Kovy's contract and invest in the future. Was Kovalchuk good? Sure, but he was no Zach Parise and the Devils have a shot at decent rebuilding.

DEVILS, JAGR AGREE TO ONE-YEAR DEAL
Quote :
"Jaromir Jagr is set to join his fourth team since returning to the NHL in 2011-12.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com, the 41-year-old has agreed to a one-year deal with the New Jersey Devils. The deal is expected to be announced on Tuesday.

Jagr returned to the league two years ago with the Philadelphia Flyers before signing a one-year, $4.5 million deal with the Stars last season. The Stars traded Jagr to the Bruins prior to the deadline and Jagr helped Boston reach the Stanley Cup Final.

The veteran forward posted 16 goals and 35 points in 45 games played last season, adding 10 assists in 22 playoff appearances for the Bruins.

Jagr has played in 19 NHL seasons in his career. The 1998-99 Hart Trophy winner has two Stanley Cup victories, five Art Ross Trophies, and three Lester B. Pearson Awards. Jagr is also a seven-time First Team All-Star.

Jagr has only missed the playoffs in two of his 19 seasons."

Jammer's contract is conditional upon him growing out the mullet again. It's apparently a branding move, the citizens of Newark need a player they can relate with.

GQ has called it "Jagr Swagr"...Fragrance coming soon.

Speaking of uni issues, it didn't occur to me that the Canes' old number font was the same as the Bledsoe-era Patriots until last month.

Hybrid icing has been approved by the PA for this season. It's still kinda hard to grasp, I think. I say if you're going to do this, you might as well go with no touch. It's how everyone grew up playing anyway.

I also like David Clarkson managing a 10-game suspension with his shiny new team before the season even starts...

Do not like. It's better than no touch, but existing rules were ok. May have caused a few injuries but it's hockey.
