I had a debate with two roommates once that Cary, carry, and Kerry were three different words. They disagreed. This was printed when I asked who john Carey was, when my roommate was referenced john Kerry... ( it was well after the election and out of a political context, and he pronounced it like cary)This explains. I'm from new jersey

when I say cold, it sounds like code. Same for old...sounds like ode.
6/5/2013 8:57:17 PM
Do you also say on as own?
6/5/2013 8:58:30 PM
No. It's the L I have a problem with I think. People say I just have a speech impediment.

I think I've heard the term sunshower, but don't use it. I have no term/phrase for this. Anyone that says something about the devil beating his wife should be beaten.

we always called it a golden shower

I could spend hours looking through this. The individual maps are much better. Also, I talk more like a non-southener.

Ya, I basically say things like I spent the afternoon at the swimming pull. I don't know why, but anything else sounds odd to me. When I hear other people say "on," it sounds like "ahn." High vowel, short n. Own is distinct because it's a low vowel with a long n sound, so I guess I say it similar to the vowel sound in "caught" (but not cot) and with a long n sound at the end.

I still say "the devil is beating his wife" I also like the term pill bug over roly poly, I use the term icing, and I grew up saying buggy, sneakers and scrap paper. Apparently I am from no particular region.
