http://www.indyweek.com/triangulator/archives/2013/06/05/fast-track-fracking-bill-passes-house-commerce-committeeThis horrid bill is sponsored by Rucho, Brock, and Newtown as they have taken large contributions from energy companies. In other words they could care less about the grave consequences for NC citizens.

yawn
6/5/2013 1:20:11 PM
its a better bill
6/5/2013 1:30:18 PM
^ Except that it will still bring fracking to NC
6/5/2013 2:59:14 PM
yeah, but the writing was on the wall for that since Perdue was flown to PA by lobbyists and came back and said it was a great idea.

Because wasting our fresh drinking water for peanuts is totally worth it...
6/5/2013 3:31:15 PM
^^ Smath ask the people of PA how well it worked out for them.
6/5/2013 4:02:38 PM
oh, i didn't realize fracking was going to use up all of our freshwater. those poor thirsty people in Pennsylvania
6/5/2013 4:09:31 PM
In PA it polluted it and in some places you can set it on fire. If it was safe and pollution free they would not need exemptions from clean air and water regulations.[Edited on June 5, 2013 at 4:20 PM. Reason : .]

there are a lot of industrial processes that need a lot of water. Why do you single out fracking?and the contamination thing... seriously? there is NO evidence for widespread contamination and any isolated contamination has been contained (not to mention that the type of contamination is not specific to fracking vs other methods of extraction)
6/5/2013 4:50:50 PM
Because there is no demonstrable need for fracking in NC. Natural gas prices are super low, and the amount of supposed reserves in this state are trivial when compared to other deposits. You are smart enough to know that this is all a ploy to get ahead of any meaningful regulation and oversight that will eventually be drafted nationally.

^11111 postsWhere you see conspiracy i see an opportunity to utilize a resource we have available, at a fairly low ecological cost when compared to things like coal and oil. yes, i'd of course like to see us use the natural gas when the prices are higher, but then again i don't want the prices to rise... as far as fossil fuels go natural gas is the cleanest. Woah, nice catch. I won't argue against using Natural Gas as a viable transition fossil fuel, it's the capricious and arbitrary nature in while energy companies are being encouraged to plunk down drilling wells knowing they will only receive a slap on the wrist if and when they irrevocably destroy a water source and/or ecosystem.

Just what you want to see making up your landscape:

Better than houses...those well sites will be abandoned at some point. Houses are forever.

houses get abandoned all the time...
