I haven't been in quite a few years, even though most of my family is from there. GF and I will be out at Short Pump one night and downtown the next. What are the latest, greatest things to do?

last time i went, we walked out to this island over the river. pretty decent trail with some cool shit to look at along the way. there was some abandoned water plant or something we chilled in for a while. the river was raging and we were pushing huge logs into it, and watched them get tossed around like rag dolls in the current. walked from there to downtown that night and had beers at a number of bars. would do again.

Exclaim loudly in public that Richmond should be the rightful national Capitol and loudly mention that the South will rise again.

Strange Matter might be a damn good idea. Wonder if there'll be a band at innsbrook Friday evening. I think we're gonna step it up and do brunch at the Jefferson Sunday. Tobacco Company at some point. Maybe Strawberry Street. Keep em coming.

-If you like craft beer, stop by Hardywood Brewing on your way to downtown (it's off Boulevard near the Diamond). Pick up some bombers or growlers.-I haven't actually been out that much downtown (living within walking distance of Carytown, that's where I end up more often than not). Of the places I have been, Havana '59 makes a good mojito and has an open-air side and a cigar side (though for Cuban food, they don't come close to Kuba Kuba in The Fan). Casa Del Barco is a pretty good new-ish place, higher-end tex-mex and a great tequila selection. Capital Ale House is still the downtown beer mecca.-I try to avoid Short Pump; the traffic is a major pain in the ass and there are way too many chain restaurants and big-box stores. Though there's some good stuff mixed in with all the rest of it, granted.-If you've not been in a while, the new addition to the Museum of Fine Arts (2009 I think?) is actually a really cool building and they've done some great work on landscaping the property. Cool place to wander around for a bit. If you're there on a Friday they have good Happy Hour specials too, though the patio gets crowded quickly.

Chris...lotsa good suggestions. I'm thinking we may need to check out VMFA. We're going the second weekend in July, and they're doing the wine thing. And we both dig the craft brews quite a bit. Her company has an office out at Short Pump, and she gets stupid rates at some of the hotels out that way. Saturday night will be at the Berkeley. We couldn't afford the Jefferson. Y'all gonna be around?[Edited on June 4, 2013 at 1:56 PM. Reason : Short Pump]
