Competition is great...for awhile the only big theaters in this area were Regal...now Southpoint is an AMC and the Stone theater in Morrisville is fantastic ($5 all movies on Tuesdays)...will be nice to see some of that competition actually in Raleigh too.

Does texting really bother people that much? I understand if you're doing it the entire movie with the sound on and everything, but I don't feel like I need to apologize for banging out a quick message or two if I'm not making any noise.

Smartphone screens are pretty distracting if someone is sitting in front of you with one in a dark theater.

What ^ said. The screens are pretty goddamn distracting. On top of that, can you really not go an hour and forty minutes without texting?

yes, bright cell phone screens really are that distracting. you're a jerk for busting out a few quick text messages. you're not that important, those messages can wait a couple hours.

if you can't afford not checking your phone for a movie's length of time, shouldn't you be doing something more important?

what I find ironic is that you are all typing on the internet to complain about texters, and you are all probably in movies right now as we "speak

If you get mad about being in public maybe you shouldn't go to the movies.

Alamo's are sweet. Fortunately, I got the chance to go to one of the originals before they blew up nationally. One of the perks of living in Austin/

The Colony Theatre, Misson Valley Cinemas, and Six Forks Cinemas all sell beer. I'm fairly certain that the Raleighwood does as well.

So, what is the Alamo Drafthouse and why are we excited? I love Austin, but I looked it up, I don't get the thrill. Also, TWW is the only evidence of one coming

Top Google search result for Alamo Drafthouse Raleigh is this thread.

They typically have about a 30 min movie clip that parodies the main feature before each show. these are very entertaining when you are just sitting down, drinking beer and waiting for the movie to start.

Alamo Drafthouse is terrible. Cellphone screens are too bright, but everyone is gung-ho about a theater where they leave the lights on so people can eat.

It's for people who want to go to a mediocre restaurant that shows a movie, not people who actually want to go see a movie.

any company/establishment that forbids kids under 6 and unaccompanied minors immediately peaks my interest and has a greatly increased chance of getting much $$ from me

I haven't had much trouble with kids at movies, but I guess I don't go to movies that kids would be interested in. I can see how they would be a problem at like Iron Man 3 or whatever.

One of my friends wanted to open an Alamo Drafthouse franchise in the Boylan Pearce building.

But the building got sold in December.

semi-related: the only time i ever had a movie attendant person thingy come talk to me was the time i was looking up stuff on wikipedia when i went to a movie with my mom. it was during the day and we were the only ones in there except an elderly couple sitting at the very front. whatevs

so this place sounds kinda neat. do they get the current movies or play them after a few months time or what?
