Back in February some friends and I made a movie for Campus Moviefest poking fun at the wolf alert descriptions that were sent out for a few years. The movie titled Dark Complexion Male is now in the final round of a competition for it to be screened at the Campus Moviefest national competition in Hollywood! If our movie receives more views than the team were are against by Monday night, we have the opportunity to go to Hollywood for the premiere. It would be great for another NC State team to be represented at this competition.

Here are some "pro" tips for your next big viral hit:

Pick up a microphone. Get an 1/8" extension cord, like a long one (10 feet or more). Plug it into the mic plug on the camera. Tape it to a long stick. Bam, you've got yourself a boom mic.

If I had the resources I would have made a boom mic, but to buy a microphone that is better quality that the one on the Canon XHA1 camera would have probably been too expensive.

No. I mean the judges who picked it as one of the better films submitted, the hundreds of people who applauded the movie in Witherspoon, the large number of people I don't even know who have come up to me to complement me on the film, and the thousands of supporters that have helped us get this far in the competition.

Not bad for a rookie effort. I would leave out some of the "cheap" humor (ie. ball shaving). That type of stuff is usually only funny to young kids. The acting was pretty shaky also to be honest. You know what, I would actually just call it quits if I were you.

Derisiveness, discouragement, and personal insults do not qualify as criticism. If I keep "embarrassing" myself through defending myself from the unprovoked abusiveness demonstrated by the people in this community, this thread remains at the top of the forum, and the video continues to gain viewership. By no means is it perfect. I can think of a lot of things that could be improved. Certainly a boom mic would have helped in a few scenes (I will let you know that cmf may have double compressed the audio on this thing because they can't deal with certain file types). The acting wasn't perfect and there are some continuity errors. If you expected a Kubrick or a Tarantino you will be dissapointed, seeing as this was done on a limited budget with a limited time frame of a weekend by college students in the middle of a semester. If you find the film juvenile or unfunny that is your prerogative. Evidently, quite a few people disagree.
