I drove past it earlier this week and it was normal, no signs or anything.

I just past it a bit ago and the entire thing is destroyed, there's a sign that says they're hiring and it's closed for renovations.
Anyone know what's up/have more details/knew about this before just now?

Picture I got at the Western/Gorman stop light, I may go back for more

^^ I got two hours of sleep last night and they both sound the same. I may try to get one with the giant sign if I pass it later

This is on Western heading east. And the townhouse thingy is part of the complex off Sherman across from Rhyne's Gate

Dude

Sheetz would make a killing if they would move close to NC State

cheap gas, cheap food

win win

I'm spoiled by Sheetz b/c I have two within a 5-10 minute drive of me.

There is one, actually XD
Well, close to the edge, but where the fence is, one corner is covered with a giant "NOW HIRING" banner.

I went to a Sheetz once a few years ago with a friend... I was less than impressed, but it was also an otherwise bad experience, so I may be biased.

yeah this makes no sense. also there is a sheetz like a mile away from there, where you can actually get in and out without waiting in traffic for 8 hours.

they really do need to rebuild that wendys though, and move it about 20 feet closer to gorman st. stupid fuckers always drove the wrong ways in the parking lot there.

I saw the fence up around the property on wednesday and figured they were just redoing something else on the inside since they just did a renovation a few years ago....

Interesting that they'd demolish and start over. I wonder if there were major problems in/with the building/structure/etc.

its cheaper and faster to tear-down and rebuild

the most important thing about this though is it means the dude with the creepy long fingernails who would touch you when you paid for your meal is currently free to roam around. he may be right behind you right now!

^^ McDonalds has been doing a ton of this kind of work recently. They take the old location, demolish it, rebuild and reopen within about 3 months. A lot of it has to do with incorporating new technologies that would be wildly expensive to modify the existing structure over just rebuilding a new building that has the new stuff incorporated into the design.

fast food architecture ftw

^^while that may be true in some cases.... renovating then demolishing and rebuilding a few years later is not cheaper.

i'm positive it still is cheaper, otherwise they wouldn't do it

also, renovation would require engineering, design, and review time/money that an already designed and accepted building would not.

What I'm saying is that it depends on the renovation - obviously this is not just a facelift renovation and something major enough was happening to warrant rebuilding to be cheaper; or maybe corporate came down and said rebuild/gave money to rebuild. It just doesn't make sense to renovate and 2 years later, demolish and rebuild is all I'm saying.

It makes sense to do a renovation, then 2 years later, say, aww fuck it; tear it down and start over? If they want/need renovations and it's cheaper to demolish and rebuild, then yes that makes sense. It doesn't make sense to renovate then demolish then rebuild.

No, I don't think these decisions are made on the fly. But something certainly isn't totally right about this sequence of events.

if it didn't make sense, they wouldn't do it. obviously they are looking for enough of a change that the renovation cost is prohibitive or maybe even not possible at all. duh.

it may make sense now to demolish and rebuild. I'm saying something went stupid during the in-between.

^^ The renovation work could of been done as a band aid until they decided to pull the trigger on a full tear down, or maybe they used the renovation as a gauge to see if they did minor improvements if sales increased as a justification to rebuild a new store.

quick renovations/ facade changes are used all the time as stop-gaps until a larger capital project can be funded and decided on. hell, i can bring you to one of our projects where we are tearing down a building we just replaced a roof on. this is not an out-of-the ordinary business operation.

a store like this is like a piece of equipment, it needs to be running to make money. If something is not working, you will take a little time and a little money to patch it together until you can afford or make plans to buy a new piece of equipment. a renovation/repair can be done with very little impact to cashflow, a major project can't.

duh

Edit:
Raleigh needs to make approved site plans available online, I wanted to pull up a site plan but can't in Raleigh. Here is who is doing the project:
BUILDING QUALIFIED BUILDERS
ELECTRICAL BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAIN ELECTRIC
FACILITY FEE
FIRE PROTECTION CHISHOLM SERVICES
LAND DISTURBING QUALIFIED BUILDERS
MECHANICAL CHISHOLM SERVICES
PLUMBING JIMMY'S PLUMBING & REPAIR INC
ZONING QUALIFIED BUILDERS

Weren't they one of the highest grossing Wendy's in the country? I remember hearing that when I was a student (same for the Bojangle's, which I know is true, and the Applebee's, which I'm not sure).

I think the Wendy's in Morrisville (across from the new Target) is one of the busiest.

They tried out breakfast there for a good year or two at that one. The breakfast was slammin.

They started having breakfast at Wendy's in like 2005 or so when i was living off Gorman street. Shit was awful.

yeah, that was the country-wide breakfast thing they started. Then they stopped doing breakfast and then like 2 or 3 years later, they started it up again at like 2 or 3 locations around Raleigh (the one in Morrisville and the one near the PNC Arena are the ones I knew about). The breakfast the 2nd time around was so much better than the first time.
