this was definitely worth the extra thread. particularly given all the new data and links you've provided. i shall continue this thread of excellence with my post here.http://gizmodo.com/the-new-xbox-everything-you-need-to-know-about-microso-509033619[Edited on May 21, 2013 at 1:25 PM. not crazy about voice controls in general but that aside this sounds like the new hotness assuming they can pull it off without it being super buggy
5/21/2013 1:25:30 PM
The delay is what kills the current kinect. Make it instant and I will be happy
5/21/2013 1:28:01 PM
Microsoft partnership with EA
5/21/2013 1:30:13 PM
Naming it "Xbox One" was a dumb idea. It's almost worst than "Wii U". Of course, MS can market the damn thing much better than Nintendo is currently marketing the Wii U, so there'll be less confusion.
5/21/2013 1:30:26 PM
I'd kill for an SSD or at least the ability to put one in but I know better than to expect that.
5/21/2013 1:31:11 PM
this thing looks awesome. the DVR and tv interaction, and Windows 8 style pinning a browser to the side are awesome.
5/21/2013 1:33:57 PM
Yeah more I think about it MSoft should have waited on 8 and used this to trojan horse the metro stuff in so people could get hyped about it instead of feeling forced into it.
5/21/2013 1:37:02 PM
they started sneaking people into metro with the last xbox update and outlook/skydrive/live services
5/21/2013 1:40:19 PM
5/21/2013 1:46:56 PM
yeah hardware reliability this generation has got to be better. both my first PS3 and XBox burnt out on me in around 2 years
5/21/2013 1:48:07 PM
steven spielberg HALO series coming to Xbox One!
5/21/2013 1:48:39 PM
I've had 2 different Xboxes and lived with people who had 3 others. I've never had RROD. My drive was starting to fail on the first one I had but I had it for like 4 years and played the shit out of it - what do you expect?I'm Krallum and I approved this message.
5/21/2013 1:49:57 PM
it's like a properly executed Google TV + gamesstill want to see what Sony does
5/21/2013 1:52:46 PM
I'm going to trademark XBOX nONE before sony fanboys start using it
5/21/2013 1:53:30 PM
CoD sneak peek!
5/21/2013 1:54:12 PM
EA partnership with Microsoft means no NCAA or Madden on ps4, right?
5/21/2013 2:00:37 PM
OMG arm hair in COD!The one thing I was missing!
5/21/2013 2:02:41 PM
EA wouldn't be dumb enough to do that. probably timed exclusive DLC like always
5/21/2013 2:02:44 PM
GHOSTS WHERE WE @?I'm Krallum and I approved this message.[Edited on May 21, 2013 at 2:04 PM. Reason : WW@?]
5/21/2013 2:03:56 PM
They better make sure that the voice commands recognize different accents or a lot of people are gonna get frustrated (myself included) very easily with it.
5/21/2013 2:05:28 PM
You could say that about the new google search or anything else. I think they've figured that out otherwise they wouldn't advertise that shit. Everyone remembers how annoying the voice training shit was in the 90s / early 00sI'm Krallum and I approved this message.
5/21/2013 2:06:22 PM
Looks bad ass. Gettin one!
5/21/2013 2:08:24 PM
Has the PS4 reveal already happened?I'm going to be mad if this comes out after GTA5 and its not backwards compatable.I'm Krallum and I approved this message./]
5/21/2013 2:10:23 PM
kinda, but they didn't show much. it was more a PS4 controller reveal.
5/21/2013 2:11:22 PM
will be purchased.
5/21/2013 2:18:44 PM
i want to know a cost
5/21/2013 2:24:18 PM
lol what a turd. instead of making it a replacement set top box it literally overlays its ui on top of existing set top boxes that are connected via hdmi. what a waste of an opportunity.[Edited on May 21, 2013 at 2:28 PM. Reason : k]
5/21/2013 2:28:34 PM
also lol at the stupid name and dog blops[Edited on May 21, 2013 at 2:29 PM. Reason : a]
5/21/2013 2:29:23 PM
^^ but you don't have to interact with your set top box, so why is that an issue?http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/05/xbox-one/
5/21/2013 2:39:46 PM
Im in. Time to resurrect DaBean.[Edited on May 21, 2013 at 2:49 PM. Reason : a]
5/21/2013 2:48:32 PM
because you will have to interact with your set top box. its a pass through. like if you have a TiVo you're gonna see the TiVo UI right along side the xbox ui. only if you have a cable box that supports sending commands over hdmi (probably none of them) will it work.also it means you still need to have a fucking shit pile slow tuning cable box. the entire point of the xboxo is supposedly removing complexity and instead its just another dumb box.like if it was a set top box replacement then you could get into stuff like offering discounted xboxos with cable contracts. that would get Microsoft a massive number of new customers who don't give a shit about the latest rehash of terrible contard shooters like dog blops: ghosts.its another wasted opportunity

5/21/2013 2:51:01 PM
Just heard from someone (not 100% sure) that it won't allow used games. Dislike. If Sony allows used games on the PS4 then we can say goodbye to Microsoft as a console developer. If Sony were smart they would allow used games on the PS4 but not on the PS5.
5/21/2013 2:51:47 PM
^^ watch the video, it shows just the xbox UI for the guide. it looks good. i'm pretty sure they said it uses commands over HDMI[Edited on May 21, 2013 at 2:57 PM. Reason : ^don't think that has been confirmed]
5/21/2013 2:54:01 PM
^^http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/05/xbox-one-analysis/This suggests that it might not allow used games or might require a fee to be paid. Also, no backwards compatibility (which was expected).[Edited on May 21, 2013 at 2:59 PM. Reason : .]
5/21/2013 2:58:49 PM
^^ yeah if the cable box supports it, but who knows which ones do. for cable boxes that don't support it theres an ir out. either way it so fucking dumb that it doesn't replace cable boxes.
5/21/2013 3:12:54 PM
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/407912/microsoft-confirms-pre-owned-fee-for-xbox-one/Just saw this, it says there definitely will be a fee for used games.

because some people really want to be able to purchase it at the store, also it saves big chunks of data that you don't have to download. I'd bet they will also be available as download. (some people still buy CDs and DVDs)
5/21/2013 3:28:03 PM
Also some people don't have access to good broadband connections.
5/21/2013 3:47:01 PM
I for one like owning something tangible so I see the appeal though I have and do buy digitally if its the same price I'd like a disc and a case just for the freedom to take it, sell it, etc.
5/21/2013 3:51:00 PM
And some people bring consoles to be used in events without bringing their own discs.(Granted, being able to play without the disc and not needing to be online will make it easier for fighting game tournaments to be organized)I knew it wasn't going to be backwards-compatible but that doesn't mean it still doesn't sting.
5/21/2013 3:52:54 PM
digital distribution will be the primary mechanism, and discs will be for low bandwidth users and to appease retailers. same as w/ steam
5/21/2013 3:54:06 PM
wonder if it'll be a standalone box for some cable providers, like how you can use a 360 as a dvr on u-verse
5/21/2013 4:19:07 PM
remember too that we had past rumors about a smaller, secondary, set-top only box. maybe that and complete set-top functions in the ONE are future updates, if they get through the cable company bureaucracy.
5/21/2013 4:33:18 PM
yeah I suppose if they go all iptv instead of cable card that would work. I might buy one if that ever happens
