This would be an excellent way to generate some exposure to some of Marvel's lesser known B-list characters.

That guy is a little small for Luke Cage IMO.

Should have been Terry Crews, although he is a little old.

I guess that trailer spoils that Coulson is still alive. I think there was speculation over it, but never anything concrete.

Alphas was created/produced by Joss Whedon?

What level of involvement do you really believe he's going to have on the show? I'm skeptical that he'll do anything more than read the occasional script and cash his checks.

Hell if I know. All of his pre-Avengers success came from being directly involved with projects.

I don't know if one movie is going to turn him into someone who just puts his name on the credits and cashes the checks, I guess we will see.

I guarantee you the overwhelming majority of his time is being consumed by Avengers 2 right now, that was not the case when he was working on Buffy or Firefly or Dollhouse. I'm not trying to say he's a money grubbing bastard, you just have to look at the reality of his circumstances now versus when he was doing those shows.

^Yeeeeah...they clearly addressed that in the episode. He thinks he survived and went on a vacation, the others alluded to the fact that something else happened but they can't reveal what it is. It'll definitely be revealed at some point in the series, but that just hinted that it was something more ominous.

I had no trouble understanding them, but I just thought their whole dynamic was a little too cliche. A duo of ridiculously intelligent experts that have a large amount of sexual tension between them exchanging innuendo and playful banter just seems like it has been done way too often.

There were a few other cliches that they could have done without. The super hot hacker who lives in her van (yet conveniently can afford designer clothes and always has perfect makeup) and is able to hack into super secret government computer systems but later decides to join them? I'm sure she'll meet her "match" in the future in the form of a neckbearded hacker that lives in his mother's basement. And Agent Ward just seems sooo plain. He just seems like a regular super spy that can do anything from fly a fighter jet to (as was discussed) defuse a nuclear bomb.

I lolled at the plane though -- I never really read the comics or anything so maybe it was taken directly out of that and if so then I have no problem with it but a gigantic plane with two engines on each wing plus two more engines on the aft end and two horizontal stabilizers is just goofy.

I really like the guy playing Agent Coulson though. His delivery on the jokes is quite good.

Yeah, a bit cliched, but I'll watch a few more episodes to see where they take it.

If anything, my complaint was that they were way too heavy-handed with that and other pretty blatant hints of future story lines. Not sure how it could have been handled better, but it seemed pretty forced at times.

I bet he's a life model decoy or something similar. He sure had quick reflexes to dodge that can door.

I enjoyed it, despite its flaws and I think it's entertaining enough and has a lot of promise to keep me watching. Would be pretty cool to have some of the new characters introduced on the show have cameos/small roles in Avengers 2.

I enjoyed it. A lot of things you would expect from a Joss Whedon show. I'm curious to see how much he'll be involved since he's going to have a lot more going on now compared to when his other shows were running.

Yes, the characters are a little cliche right now. But to be fair, it's about 44 minutes into the series. There's plenty of time for character development. Especially on a show that is largely going to fall into the "story of the week" format with larger, slow playing story archs.

I can see why some people would find it a bit corny. That's pretty typical of Whedon's shows (Firefly, Dollhouse, Buffy).

I think his brother and sister in law are actually directing/running the show but I expect he will have significant involvement.

I don't think Joss is quite as busy as people seem to make him out to be. He's writing and directing Avengers 2, but writing isn't something that has to consume all of your time, and most of it could be done already for all we know, and Avengers 2 hasn't started shooting yet.

I picked up on that dodge too. I couldn't decide if it was just there to kind of make him look like the non-chalant badass boss, or if it had something to do with what happened to him after Avengers. I kept waiting for a scene where Coulson was somewhat suspicious of being able to do that.

Pretty much this. Joss is always pretty heavy-handed with achetypes early in a show's development, but they gradually grow and evolve as the story progresses.

He's involved with several smaller side projects. He just put out that 'Much Ado About Nothing', I think he's dabbling in another 'Dr Horrible', and he's actively involved in the script writing for Avengers 2

When it's all said and done I liked it. It could have been a little less campy, sure, but if I'm remembering right this is the first time that Joss has ever had to work within the confines of a PG rating. Most of his stuff is PG13/TV14. I would think that makes a difference.

I really enjoyed especially many of the references to the greater universe. Prior to Avengers, most of the allusions were a wink and a nudge, but the inclusion of plot elements from Ironman 3 really adds to the feeling of a shared story. Also, the special effects were pretty believable, and the dialogue was fun.

It sort of makes me miss Heroes when it was good.

Watched 15 minutes of the second episode. Tried very hard to like it.

Awful.

Trying very hard to be a Joss Whedon show but really not doing well. Way too cheesy and over the top, bad acting, bad editing, bad camera work. Not a fan.

tone the cheesiness and the cliches down a bit, make better cinematography and editing decisions, and don't do stupid shit like that raft bit and it could be really good

new theory for coulson: either something asgardian or dr. strange. I do like the super soldier theory I read though
