There are a bunch of churches near campus. But when I live in New England before relocation, there is no such habit of going to church. NC is still conservative and old fashion.[Edited on May 12, 2013 at 12:43 AM. Reason : add another note]

5/12/2013 12:37:02 PM
^^^^Yeah, seriously, like church attendance is also very high in New England, but public professions of faith are much less common (like you'll be very unlikely to find a stranger on the bus asking you whether you've been saved by Jesus).[Edited on May 12, 2013 at 12:41 PM. I'm in churches for various community meetings that are civic rather than religious on a regular basis, if that counts?
5/12/2013 3:09:38 PM
I would go almost every Sunday if I could find one up here. Is NY and NJ considered New England?
5/12/2013 5:50:08 PM
Is that a serious question?
5/12/2013 6:01:52 PM

5/12/2013 6:09:08 PM
NY and NJ are not part of New England: Basically all of the states east of NY compose New England.

Just went back from Fort Hill near main campus.I went to so many different ones lately, Colonial, White Memorial, Grace, Fort Hill, and Saint Thomas ini Chapel Hill.

Is the Bible Belt=deep south?
7/28/2013 2:36:36 PM
it's the south + parts westward until you hit arizona/californiathat's when the protestants start yelling at the state as being anti-god while the main influx of people are from rich catholic heritagesi'll never forget the time i was at the post office on hillsborough street and a lady blamed the fact she had to work on good friday on "all those immigrants"and i was like uh

isnt church mandatory on campus at gardner webb?and if you do homework or go to sleep they come scold you?or is that just a rumor?
7/28/2013 3:35:43 PM
THOUSANDS
7/28/2013 3:41:01 PM
I do. I also volunteer as well so I pretty much have to go. Volunteering actually makes me want to go instead of feeling like I have to, since I have now made several friends there.
7/28/2013 8:36:35 PM
I go every Sunday unless I am physically unable to do so. I love being able to attend and will even seek out churches to attend when I am out of town. It always gives me a sense of welcome and acceptance when I find others who share my faith when I am alone and traveling. I am not ashamed of my faith or religion and never want to be. So yes, I do attend church every Sunday.EDIT: Also, NJ part of New England?! For shame! lol [Edited on July 29, 2013 at 12:47 PM. Reason : You should know better...]
7/29/2013 12:46:40 PM
no. i can learn more about the bible reading it myself instead of listening to someone else try to interpret it. i still do go a time or two a year, and have to make an effort not to lol during the sermon.
7/29/2013 12:52:40 PM
^You need to find a better church.I, too, had to hold back the LOL's at our last church...but we recently started going to a new one the last few weeks and it's a WORLD of difference. I actually WANT to go back to this one.
7/29/2013 1:02:47 PM
well, to be honest, i have to to make an effort not to lol anytime somebody tells me that they believe in a god who listens to their prayers and cares about their daily lives[Edited on July 29, 2013 at 1:06 PM. Reason : ]

Raleigh/Durham peeps who want to try a church that is less about religion and more about just Jesus should check out Vintage Church. Its legit
7/29/2013 1:17:02 PM
"legit" in what context?
7/29/2013 1:21:49 PM
legit in that they don't make things up that can't be backed up in scripture like the common southern church belief that alcohol is inherently evil and that you need to work for your salvation...you can check out sermons online...they post them on the website: http://vintagenc.com/
7/29/2013 1:26:00 PM
7/29/2013 1:27:52 PM
i think she's saying it's less about the rules and dogma of the religion, and more about jesus the man and his teaching.and i'm totally cool with jesus's teaching, i think a lot of them are legit. but i don't think it's legit to say he was the son of god, rose from the dead, and is humanity's lord and savior.
7/29/2013 1:33:36 PM
Well its an Acts 29 church, so its pretty stripped down of titles like Methodist, Baptist, etc. And by "less religion and more jesus" i mean the focus isn't on rules or trying to be Christian or "10 ways to [insert religiosity]" or whatever. Instead Vintage really focuses on Jesus...try to listen to a sermon if you can. I am far less eloquent on this subject than the pastor.
7/29/2013 1:38:29 PM
btw, Bullet, it is kind of difficult imo to think Jesus' teachings were legit but not think he was the son of God at the same time...he says it over and over, so basically he either is who he says he is, or he is a crazy person. i know he is who he says he is and im pretty stoked about that
7/29/2013 1:42:36 PM
i'm talking more about the "love thy neighbor" and "judge not" and and all that, the stuff that a lot of christians don't seem to follow.and you gotta keep in mind the bible was written by people telling stories about jesus well after the fact. they might have claimed that he said he was the son of god, but that doesn't actually mean he said it. but yeah, if he claimed he was the son of god, then yeah, he was crazy. but he still had some good ideas (if those truly were his ideas, and not just the writers of the bible putting words in his mouth)
