http://colleges.collegerecruiter.com/l/3102/North-Carolina-A-And-T-State-University-NC-A-And-TI'm gonna go ahead and call bullshit on A&T's starting salary. The 75th percentile of their freshman scored 440 in Writing, 480 in Reading, and 500 in Math. The 25th percentile scored 350 in Writing, 390 in Reading, and 410 in Math.Simply put, it is not possible to take that batch of students and give them a legitimate college education in four years. And it is even more impossible in the technical fields, which is where a good portion would have to be in order to push starting salary averages that high. These people are going into college and can't read. The top 1/4 of their students are defined as those who got more than 30% of the raw score points available on SAT Reading. I'm supposed to believe the difference between this freshman class and Duke's is $9k after graduation? [Edited on May 16, 2013 at 5:19 AM. Reason : a]

because it has been continuously reaffirmed that the SAT not only accurately measures college readiness, but is also a good indicator of future success in the real world.
5/16/2013 5:37:52 AM
You have obviously never tried to teach anything to someone whose reading and math scores start with a 3 or 4. These adults are barely functional.
5/16/2013 5:56:48 AM
The key to A&T's scores are the retention rate. Yes there are a ton of barely functional people that get into that school, but less than 1/4 of their students actually graduate. A&T has the states biggest minority Engineering school, think of A&T as black NC State.LIBERAL ARTS DEGREES ARE LIBERAL ARTS DEGREES. DON'T MATTER IF ITS DUKE OR CENTRAL. I think you are confusing the meaning of average. Average means that roughly 50% are higher, and 50% are lower. I knew a chemical engineer at A&T that got a job just below 100k from Exxon.[Edited on May 16, 2013 at 7:02 AM. Reason : ]

With regards to the liberal arts degree, I was just thinking that maybe we've been placing too much emphasis on the degree and not enough on the type of person who picks it.I've noticed that STEM-y people tend to be very aggressive about careers and money, and liberal arts majors are much too passive about the whole deal.We keep saying those degrees are worthless, but maybe it's also that the type of person who picks it just has no ambition.[Edited on May 16, 2013 at 7:12 AM. Great point.People who major in liberal arts are worthless. They have no ambition, want very little out of life, and picked the easiest major just so they can satisfy their parents college mandate.
5/16/2013 7:21:19 AM
STEM majors need the liberal arts majors to function as most of them are socially retarded.
