One of the best survival shows on tv. The "swimming with sharks" episode is amazing. If you miss Survivorman, check this out on Discovery Channel. Should be on demand.

Yep this sucked me in and I watched all three episodes. Very interesting premise even if he did require assistance a couple of times. This guy definitely knew his shit yet still got very desperate. I kept thinking how much he relied on 'trash' that washed up...cans, plastic bottles, tubing, pipe, rope.

I didn't like it. I was expecting this guy to be Robinson Crusoe by the end of the 60 days, living in a treehouse with running water and satellite TV he managed to get from making his own Home Theater setup from washed up beer cans. Instead it took the dude 2 weeks to start a fire. Very underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I could do any better, but I guess I was just looking for something more from the supposed survival expert. All in all the three episodes had less impact on me than a single episode of Survivorman.

I've always thought a good premise for a reality show (or documentary) would be a billionaire who owns a deserted island offers a million dollars to a survivor guy to live on island for a full year. Set up hundreds of cameras on the island and one go-pro camera to the survivor guy and watch the dude struggle.I'd like to think I could make it 60 days, but 365 days would be a bitch

^^^That's why I like it. The guy has more knowledge than the average person but isn't a brilliant outdoorsman (he wasn't sure about the sea cucumber for example, I he was he may have realized their mucus could be used as sunscreen). It sort of is more in line with what a "normal" person would do.

I really enjoyed the first 3 episodes. Bear Grylls couldn't carry this guy's jock strap.

i loved the show but was confused at times with his survival knowledgewhy didnt he immediately make snares to catch the goats?

Yeah, I would have gone for the goats on day 1. He didn't really need a bow/arrows, just stones.

I enjoyed his lack of knowledge in some areas, and agree with OP about the comparison to Survivorman. IMO, the trial and error aspect of Survivorman is one of the aspects that made it so much better than Man vs. Wild (even before everyone found out what a phony Bear is).I was also fairly entertained by what I think was some real, actual unbridled emotion when he finally accomplished things like finding the right kind of wood, finally cutting that tree down, etc.In fact, my only real major disappointment was that he never really lost a tooth, it turned out to just be a denture that fell out. I WAS WAITING THIS WHOLE TIME TO SEE HOW THE F YOU LOST YOUR TOOTH YOU SON OF A BITCH! Felt like Hot Tub Time Machine

lol ... i actually laughed at your comment about the toothi feel the same way about it. i was sooooooooo let down by that but it was hilarious and very well played by discovery. i loved the show and the concept and wish there had been more episodes. i did like the emotion he showed when completing a major task. that was very cool. never liked man v/s wild and felt bear gave advice that could possibly kill people.

Not everyone has the motivation to bash a goats skull in on day 1. For me personally, I'd have to be a few days in of not eating to reach that point.
