I think this speaks to one of the real problems with race our country has - namely, perception. The older black woman on the council and the NAACP sees racism even where it doesn't exist, whereas younger people don't see those things. There was a time maybe when racism was so prevalent that those perceptions were important, but now it creates drama where there isn't any.

I can respect how passionate she is on the issue, but she probably should have considered her targets and collateral damage first.

I agree with this. I think there was a lesson for the students to learn there about being more aware of those things (and we're talking about 11th and 12th graders here, not little kids), but she went about it in the completely wrong way.

I think it was the words that were really more problematic than the actual image ("this small black person" lol...).
