My father in law left his iPhone at our apartment in Belgium and we won't be back there for about a month. Looking for a phone for him to use in the mean time. I'd prefer an iPhone (doesn't matter which model) but most smartphones should work. He really just needs it to make call, check email, and surf the net.

You can buy one at Best Buy and return it before the return guarantee date. Verizon has a similar plan. I think there's a return fee of $35 maybe, not sure about that

You'd have to pay full retail then or use an upgrade. Verizon's cancellation policy is only 14 days so the latter probably won't work. You'd only be able to exhange it beyond that point at Best Buy iirc.
