Our bathroom was that color in our previous townhouse! Good choice. I also like the light fixture you changed it out with, and mirror (assuming you just framed the previous) update.

I think it's a good remodel...I just hate carpet. I think a nice remodel is a bit wasted when you still have carpet.

the carpet is much cheaper than re-doing the entire floor in something else. and i like how it feels under my toes

my kitchen is almost identically painted that color, but the cabinets are all very dark wood so it makes the orange very deep and bright.

What was your time frame on the renovation? I think 4 months or so, right? Awesome work. I can't wait to live somewhere we can paint the walls. I hate off-white.

from start to finish?

it was 3 months.

most of the work was done in 30 days though (by my family and I). i closed on it december 5th and had a lot of it done when i had to move in at the end of december.

the crown was finished in probably the end of january and the cut out between the living room and dining room was finished about the same time.

i like the cut out between the kitchen/living room, but does that cause the laundry/dryer to be excessively noisy if you're trying to watch TV? or have you began starting laundry on your way out the door or other off-times?

It's not too loud. Does bug me a bit but not horrible.

I would say in about 2 - 3 years the kitchen will get gutted and re-done so new washer and dryer will be installed

good call on opening up the wall between the kitchen and the dining/living room. That is pretty much rule #1 when it comes to property renovations. And you probably added at least $5k to the resale value, which is most likely much less than you spent to do it.

Anyone know of any groups offering interior design projects for cheap/free for low income neighborhoods. Seems like low income areas have all sorts of non-profits serving them ... why not interior design??

Maybe Meredith has a design project class someone knows about where they do it for free or on the cheap?

I'm not really sure how much interior design you can really get into in those projects. I've been involved with both Habitat and Homes of Hope in my area and it seems like most of the finishes are just whatever people donate and usually not that nice. So I don't know that a designer would really even have much control over those finishes. I haven't been on the procuring side of these jobs though, just installation so I am not sure how much control or choice is available. I could be wrong there.

The floor plans are already drawn up by a registered architect but are typically designed with construction cost and ease of work in mind due to the nature of these projects instead of trying to do cool things with them.

So you're pretty much down to paint colors and furnishings. In my experience in my area, we haven't furnished these homes. So, unless someone like Target or IKEA wanted to donate items that's out. Paint, we used to do different colors (either called out by the architect or chosen by the owners) but now at least Homes of Hope has just done one neutral paint color throughout and left it up to the homeowners to do something different.

I'm not sure what others' experiences are like in other areas, but I don't know how much an interior designer could help with even if they donated their time because of the way these jobs are done. I'd love to help with that for the ones I'm involved in locally, I just don't see a lot of room to do anything.
