Has anyone been here yet? http://www.thecowfish.com/Sounds intriguing... and the yelp reviews are positive so far.I'm coming to NC this weekend. Might have to give this spot a try!

I ate there on Thursday. It was OK. I've had better food.
4/21/2013 9:30:20 PM
Last time I was in town, I did sushi at Sono, which was decent. May be better to just go back to Sono? I know fusion cuisine is hit-or-miss.
4/21/2013 9:31:38 PM
My wife was all about this for some reason this week, think they just opened this Raleigh one. They've got one location thats been in S Charlotte (Ballantyne $$$) for a while that seems to be pretty slammed all the time so I'd read up the reviews from that one.

Sono is great if you like shitty fish and bad house music.
4/21/2013 10:36:20 PM
I have eaten at the one in charlotte and it was really good
4/21/2013 10:39:17 PM
There is a similar place in Cameron Village (Sushi Gami), its not as good but its worth mentioning at least.
4/21/2013 11:46:02 PM
I've enjoyed it while in Charlotte. Haven't gotten a chance to go to the Raleigh location just yet. I like that you can do a build-your-own sushi.
4/22/2013 2:05:51 AM
Anything from Charlotte has to be terrible.Except Ric Flair.
4/22/2013 2:21:01 AM
Marcus and Alan the owners are really nice guys, Marcus is a state grad and a huge state supporter/fan. The restaurant is going to be on an episode of animal planets tanked in two weeks or so for their big aquarium.
4/22/2013 8:07:28 AM
Been to the Charlotte oneIt was OK
4/22/2013 8:10:33 AM
went to it yesterday in north hillsenjoyed it, also had one of the spiked shakes, got me druuunk
4/22/2013 8:53:40 AM
those shakes are roughly 125% booze
4/22/2013 9:33:04 AM
too bad all the fish in that tank died...
4/22/2013 9:39:37 AM
^ yeah, won't happen when I'm taking care of it in a few months

^ yeah
4/22/2013 12:05:27 PM
I assume the show pays for all that though, right?
4/22/2013 12:12:52 PM
My friend and his gf have been going to the one in cameron village every few weeks. they love it.
4/22/2013 12:15:11 PM
Once you finish an install it becomes the customers responsibility
4/22/2013 12:16:00 PM
^^ I've looked at their menu. They're not comparable.
4/22/2013 12:24:21 PM
^^ right. but getting a dank ass aquarium for free would be worth having to replace the fish, imo
4/22/2013 12:27:41 PM
the one in Charlotte is very good.
4/22/2013 12:30:22 PM
4/22/2013 12:33:54 PM
its not exactly the same, but its the same genre and its pretty decent
4/22/2013 12:40:08 PM
^^^^ the show doesn't pay for anything, the customer gets free advertising but that's it. They have to pay for the tank, install, and livestock. I'd say that tank probably cost 140-150k from ATM. Im installing a tank 1/5 the size of that tank in chapel hill right now that I quoted at 55k.
4/22/2013 1:12:51 PM
Pardon me it is indeed South Park and not Ballantyne, still translates to $$$.
4/22/2013 1:17:44 PM
^drinks are a little pricey but otherwise I thought the prices were fair. I mean it's not BOGO sushi rolls, but it's cheaper than Sono IMO.
4/22/2013 1:24:02 PM
Fuck you people for making me hungry.... Fuck you hard.
4/22/2013 1:27:34 PM
Went there on Friday for lunch with two other coworkers. They left us waiting for 15 minute before someone came by and took our drink order. Then a bit longer for them to figure out who was going to wait on us... but the food was decent. I got a rainbow roll and was not happy that they covered it in a mayo sauce, but it tasted good. The crab dip appetizer is amazing. Our whole meal was on the house due to all the waiting hassle. Please we each got a free appetizer, so I will be going back.
4/22/2013 2:59:23 PM
I had two rolls from there the other day. One was some kinda southern BBQ one that was very different than your normal sushi. The other was wrapped in raw filet mignon I guess and it was pretty damn tasty.[Edited on April 22, 2013 at 3:15 PM. Reason : a]
4/22/2013 3:15:15 PM
HmmmOkay, might have to test this placeThat way, there's red meat for my uber-carnivore friends and fresh fish for me. And some other extras. Last amazing roll I had was a crispy pork-belly roll that was Cuban-inspired. Nom. Perhaps this place could deliver some similar cuisine? Thanks for the candid responses! Am always up for other sushi suggestions. Or other good Raleigh food.

As a person who only eats fish, and only certain types of fish, yet adores sushi, the only thing that I could have is the salmon one. Granted, it looks delicious, minus the lettuce... The rest of the menu looks okay, but rather pricey, is it really worth the price?[Edited on April 22, 2013 at 11:51 PM. Reason : grammarz]
4/22/2013 11:50:55 PM
I clicked "Menu" and immediately wanted to eat all their appetizers at once.I'm such a sucker for the aps.
4/22/2013 11:53:21 PM
Doss2k. I am thinking of taking someone there with me tomorrow. Can you figure out exactly what you had?https://www.thecowfish.com/I am excited and will come back and let yall know how it was.
4/23/2013 1:50:31 AM
^He probably had the Doug's Filet roll. I've had it at the Charlotte location and it's 10/10.[Edited on April 23, 2013 at 8:20 AM. Reason : and The Deliverance roll]
4/23/2013 8:20:16 AM
Yeah looking at the menu one was the Doug's Filet Roll and the other was The Deliverance Roll
4/23/2013 9:34:14 AM
How are the burgers? I'm not a fan of sushi.
4/23/2013 11:30:27 AM
Never eaten a burger there
4/23/2013 11:56:59 AM
I ate there last night and the wife had a burger - the green monster i think - it was pretty good. I think all their burgers are 1/2 pound so its pretty big. To be honest though the taste I had was not enough to make me really crazy about going there for a burger vs one of the other 400 places around town. The only fish I had was mackerel nigiri and it seemed like it wasn't cleaned well after the curing, still a little too oily/sour from the vinegar (on one but not the other). I would chalk that up to a rookie preparation mistake though and would still give it another shot since otherwise the texture and flavor was still good on the second piece. Oh and I got the crab wonton app per the recommendation here - awesome and comes with a mountain of fried wonton chips.I would still probably go somewhere else if I were really craving good sushi (i don't normally eat rolls though) or a burger (just preference) but could see going to this place more for an different place to eat/drink for a bit with a group.
4/23/2013 6:50:06 PM
They started in Charlotte and it's always packed, damn annoying. The bison burger is fantastic though, and I'm not surprised that iheartkisses would start a #foodporn thread about a place in a city she doesn't even live in.Lucy - get the bento box whenever you go.
4/23/2013 8:55:36 PM
similar concept in cameron villagehttp://sushigaminc.com/I like it.
4/23/2013 10:10:37 PM
Went tonight. Had some kinda sushi with the burger in the middle. Kinda in the midprice range but it is definitely popular.
4/23/2013 11:41:07 PM
Went tonight, I got the bento box and the wife got the black truffle burger. We got the crab Rangoon dip appetizer, which was good, especially once we mixed in some srirachaI got the fusion specialty bento box, which was a lot of food for $14. Mine had the pimento cheese burger slider, four pieces of Marks Roll (tuna, jalapeƱo, cream cheese, panko flash fried), sweet potato fries, edamame, and Thai cucumbersEverything we had was great, not too expensive, and we were stuffed when we left. I would definitely recommend the bento box if you've never been before
4/27/2013 9:24:26 PM
went there last week. lots of food. couldn't finish it.
4/28/2013 10:37:14 PM
Went today. Underwhelmed.
