For those who live/have lived in Charlotte or for those who play/have played golf in Charlotte...what are the best options for places to play? I've only lived here for a short time and a buddy has signed me up to play in a tournament next month. What that means is I need to hit a few balls, soon. I've googled a few places such as Sunset Hills, Charles T. Myers, and some down towards Matthews, but I'm looking for some first hand experiences here. Also, any decently cheap driving ranges where I could go to just hit some balls without worrying about where they go? Thanks in advance!

i'm not much of a golfer, but Sharon Golf Course is a dirt cheap public course, if you're just looking to get some inexpensive experience without having to know a member of a country club

If you live/work near downtown, try Charlie Sifford (Old Revolution course) for the driving range. All grass (no mats) and a great practice area for chipping/putting. The First Tee Programs is out there and it appears they've put some money into the facility.

For courses, depending on where you live in Charlotte, Stonebridge near Mineral Springs in Union County is a nice laid out, straightforward course that has great prices if your willing to drive out there. Fort Mill Golf Club is an old track, great for walking and is in fine condition at the moment.

Also look at Springfield (near Fort Mill), Old Sycamore, and Rocky River (near the speedway) (new greens, like glass)

Charlotte has some "world class" disc golf courses as well if you ever decide to just give up.

Charles T. Myers is pretty terrible but it's cheap and they have a large range (grass). You can play a quick 9 after work there without much trouble.

Just around the corner from CTM is Larkhaven. It's in a residential area, older course, but it's maintained really well and isn't punishing toward a new/rusty player.

Also in the University area is The Tradition. It's a tough course if you're rusty. I'd hold off on that one until you get your game back.

And then the others, as mentioned. Old Sycamore isn't bad.

Appreciate all the help guys. Found out the tournament is at Highland Creek. Anyone know anything about that place?
