you had to grab gloves to touch a snake?

if it was a snake i immediately recognized as non-venomous, then it wouldn't bother me to pick up a snake (i "frequently" do). but I didn't know what kind of snake this was and I am less educated on snakes than I should be. All i could think about is an old school days story I had heard about a kid taking a handful of what he thought were nightcrawlers and shoving them in his pocket to go fishing and dying because, as the story goes,"baby moccasins have less venom than the adults but its just as strong"but it WAS a brown snake and I figured if anything got stolen the gloves would have been useful to leave behind as evidence[Edited on April 10, 2013 at 8:39 PM. climbing a power cord, it's likely a juvenile rat snake.

I'm pretty sure it was just the actual power cord.
