What I find uncomfortable is you'd rather people accept a "victim" mentality because it's okay as long as they don't die.First of all, do you know how expensive it is to get stabbed? Each stab wound average roughly $15k. Walk into a hospital with 5 stab wounds and you could be looking at a $75k medical bill. So yeah. You are alive. You are traumatized by the attack, and now stuck with a fucking huge ass medical bill afterwards.

Gun massacres are the price we pay for freedom.Another uncomfortable truth we as a society have thus far rejected.
4/10/2013 12:43:25 AM
Gun massacres are not statistically significant.
4/10/2013 12:45:31 AM
If anyone ever pulled a knife on moron he'd understand why people want guns.I doubt he'd be like "it's ok...it's just a knife, lol."If you're so worried about people with guns just go buy a bunch. I'm pretty sure it really is that simple.

Children with guns who aren't even trying, standing next to a Sheriff, are more likely to kill people than grownups with knives trying really hard.Senseless gun deaths are the price we pay for freedom. #unconfortableRealityHiroRejects

that graph isn't a very convincing argument to ban assault rifles
4/10/2013 1:18:30 AM
That's good, because no one is saying we should ban assault rifles here.
4/10/2013 1:25:52 AM
you must have forgot to put the word 'hand' in the thread title, since that graph indicates knives are about as deadly as all non-handguns
4/10/2013 1:26:55 AM
Ban the 1993.Mad people getting shot with handguns back in the day.Thank goodness Windows 3.11 came out in November of that year and put the crime levels back in check.

4/10/2013 2:15:27 AM
I know this whole thread is not intended to actually be soapboxy and actually logical, but it is pretty clear that knife wielding nuts are far less lethal than gun wielding nuts. Of course people can be killed using a knife, but the point is a gun makes it FAR easier, especially in mass attacks, accidents, the hands of young peoples, etc.
4/10/2013 2:27:57 AM
You're forgetting the great equalizer argument. You're basically taking away the right of the weak(er) folks in our society to defend themselves. The elderly, the wimmenz, the disabled, those who aren't part of a mob, etc.But I guess it's ok as long as they just get beat/stabbed/robbed/raped and not killed, right?I mean, I'm sure you and your family are motherfucking Rambo when it comes to hand to hand combat, but that isn't true for everyone.Or do you think the police are going to protect you when things go bump in the night?
4/10/2013 3:01:23 AM
Look back at what I wrote. It said nothing about taking away all guns from people. It was about the OP and the comments. You seemed to take those statements as if I said, "No one should be allowed to own guns," and then railed about the consequences of that decision. The OP's point seemed to me to be that the notion that it's people who kill people and not guns is refuted significantly by the many scenarios where those who have a murderous intent are not nearly as successful with a knife as they would be with a gun. People seem to be so caught up in the notion that if they accept that fact, then the final step in the argument results in a loss of their guns, and so the tactic is to refute every single step in the argument, even when it has strong merit.
4/10/2013 4:03:24 AM

4/10/2013 7:04:15 AM
Yeah, whatever. You can have my guns when you can pry it from my cold dead hands.
4/10/2013 7:05:47 AM
it's common sense to recognize that a gun in the hands of a crazy person has a higher injury potential than a knife in the hands of the same person in the same situationrecognizing this fact is not the same thing as calling for an all-out ban on firearms
4/10/2013 7:28:39 AM
ban crazy people
4/10/2013 8:28:25 AM
^ stricter rules on who is allowed to purchase guns is a start, certainly (which is why the majority of folks are in favor of more extensive background checks)as noted, of course, the truly crazy and determined will still get guns if they want to get them, so you'll only really stop the lazy delinquents...if that prevents one person from being killed, i say it's worth it

4/10/2013 10:14:55 AM
^^^I agree. most people don't have a problem with increasing the base of background checks and improving this system. Unfortunately, the proposed legislation goes well beyond that, to the point of infringing rights. Biden, Obama, and the rest of the anti-rights folks are being disingenuous when they say this bill is only about extending background checks to "purchases" and complaining that some senators are "behind" the rest of America and wrongly trying to block and defeat this bill.[Edited on April 10, 2013 at 10:15 AM.
