I'd say it depends. Especially on how big the company/office is. My wife and I work for the same company (married before she ever started here tho) and for the first 2 years we were in entirely separate buildings. The last year we were in the same building but 4 floors apart. But, if we were dating, it wouldn't have been weird if we stopped dating or anything because we don't see each other during the day unless we make time to see each other.

I am assuming you probably are thinking about a smaller environment though.

Worked for me. Met her in OK (but she's from extreme western NC) over 4 years ago & started dating not long after that. It was nice to have someone to connect with while out there since I really didn't know anyone else. We also worked in different departments, so we really didn't have any potential for conflicts. But she did end up moving to my department, but we only worked together for less than a year before I moved to SC. She followed me 6 months later and we are still together!

Also as a consequence of this I may be the only person in America who has to see a video of myself with my ex-girlfriend on a jumbotron sized screen in the lobby every morning when I come into work.

Getting married to a former coworker.

Although we had a short lapse where we broke up and it was NOT GOOD. But I think that was mainly because we were so serious.

I've worked with girls AFTER we dated (and others that I've just hooked up with before)...and it has been a tad awkward at times. But overall, both parties USUALLY get over it.

I don't shit where I eat, and avoid mixing business with pleasure.

I would avoid it. I also would avoid befriending coworkers. I actually like some of mine now though.

I actively avoid it. It was glorious when it was working and total hell when it didn't. Once was enough.

Never done it myself, however I see no way in which this would work out for good.
