There was no one event which caused it, so it seems to be a repetitive stress injury to my coccyx causing it to get inflamed or otherwise sensitive. This has been ongoing for five months now. Doesn't hurt at anytime but immediately when I stand up after sitting for a while, at which point it is unbearably painful for a few seconds, then goes away completely. The people at student health say I should get a steroid injection to the area and hopefully end the inflammation once and for all, but I called the people they referred me to and they said it would be thousands of dollars after everything was said and done because my insurance wouldn't be helping. Does anyone know of any doctors in the area who might be able to help me out more cheaply?

I can't help with doctors, but I would investigate the possibility of a pinched nerve. I'm dealing with a shoulder issue that sounds similar to that- fine, then a lot of pain with particular movement, then it's gone.

ask your boss for a new office chair

are you sure it isnt a pilonidal cyst instead?

Speaking from experience: when inflamed, those are a constant dull pain, with moments of debilitating pain... At least in my experience.

I've been experiencing similar pain for about a year. Mainly mild discomfort. Only had one instance where I sat in a rental car and the seat gave worked a number on me so bad that I could barely walk. But yeah, other than that, mild discomfort every once a while. Wish it would go away, but I'm not even sure if there's anything I can do about it.

From the symptoms and such it does sound liek a pilonidal cyst to me, they can just show up from time to time, rather than the usual giant inflamed situation.
